IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata volleyball opened its final home stand of the 2017 regular season on Thursday evening sweeping Cedar Crest College, 3-0, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. The Mighty Macs (8-10, 6-3 CSAC) won the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-18, and then fought off the Falcons (14-6, 3-5 CSAC) for a 25-23 win in the third for the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Immaculata started the match with an 8-4 lead, but Cedar Crest closed within one point, 8-7. However, the Mighty Macs won the next six points to take a 14-7 advantage, and the Falcons got no closer than five. Leading 16-10, Immaculata won five-straight points to advance the margin to 21-10, and went on to claim the set.
- The Mighty Macs started the second set on a 7-0 run forcing the Falcons to use a timeout.
Lex Poss had three service aces during the open spurt for the Mighty Macs. Immaculata grew its lead to double digits (14-4), when an 8-2 Cedar Crest run forced Immaculata to call timeout with the score 16-12. The Mighty Macs won the point coming out of the timeout, but the Falcons rattled off the next five points tying the set at 17-all. The set was again tied at 18-18, and Immaculata won the final seven points of the set for the 25-18 win.
- Immaculata had a slight 7-3 lead to begin the third set when four-consecutive points by Cedar Crest tied the set at 7-7. The Falcons went on to take an 11-8 lead on the Mighty Macs, but a kill by
Arden Vizzard and two from
Shelby Belk squared the set at 11-11. Cedar Crest had a five-point swing giving the visitors a 16-11 advantage, but Immaculata got back within one point at 16-15. The Falcons continued to hold the edge in the set, leading 21-18, when the Mighty Macs had kills from Poss, Vizzard and
Gabrielle Guerrera as well as a block from
Rachael Rockefeller to even the set at 21-all. Immaculata used a Cedar Crest attack error to gain the advantage, 22-21, but Cedar Crest won two points for the lead to swing in favor of the Falcons, 23-22. Following a Cedar Crest service error to even the set at 23-23, Immaculata closed the match with kills from Guerrera and Rockefeller for the win. Â

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kills:
Shelby Belk and
Arden Vizzard led the way for the Mighty Macs with eight kills each.
Nicole Taylor chipped in seven, and
Gabrielle Guerrera finished with five kills.
- Assists:
Lex Poss handed out 13 assists, while
Madi Curley recorded 10 assists.
- Digs:
Olivia Carter led three Mighty Macs in double figures with 22 digs. Vizzard recorded 18, and
Sara Desmond made 11 digs.
- Service Aces: Curley led Immaculata with six aces.
- Blocks:
Rachael Rockefeller had three total blocks, including two solo and one assisted.
