CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Immaculata women's volleyball battled hard on Saturday against the Washington College Shorewomen, but the Shorewomen won 3-1.
The Mighty Macs are 2-12 for the season. Their first AEC match will be on Saturday, Oct. 17 versus Saint Elizabeth.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WASHINGTON (Md.)
- Washington College produced the early advantage, but Immaculata saw a few points via home team errors. Although the Mighty Macs notched three consecutive points late in the set, it was not enough to overcome the deficit. The Shorewomen were victorious in set one 25-13.
- Angelica Santini Bulerin put an ace on the board to open the second frame. The Shorewomen ripped off six straight rallies, but the Mighty Macs' offense helped trim the home team's lead. Three kills in a row gave Immaculata a slim 13-11 advantage. Although Washington College would pull to within a point, a Mel Mann kill ended the set 25-23.
- The third set started similar to the second, except this time, the Mighty Macs scored the first two points before Washington College logged five of their own. Despite Immaculata only being down four, a 9-1 Washington College run was the difference, even with an impressive 7-0 push. The Shorewomen grabbed set three 25-18.
- An Antonia Antolini kill and an Adriana Ventura ace were part of the early momentum in the final set. Six straight from Washington College closed the gap before the Mighty Macs got two more. Immaculata trailed just behind, but Washington College's lead was too much to overcome. The Shorewomen took the set 25-15, and the match 3-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Madi Kyle had a team-high 10 kills.
- Tara Hirschtritt put up 14 assists and tied Santini Bulerin for two aces each.
- Ventura logged 20 digs.
