COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Immaculata women's volleyball won a set in each of their matches on Saturday, but the Cedar Crest College Falcons and the Ursinus College Bears defeated Immaculata 3-1.
The Mighty Macs are 2-10 for the season. Their first AEC match will be on Saturday, Oct. 17 versus Saint Elizabeth.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CEDAR CREST
- Immaculata's offense got going early with a handful of kills from a variety of players. A 5-1 run made the score 13-8, capped off by a Sophia Banach kill. The Falcons slowly trimmed the deficit and took the lead, 23-22, on an ace. An Antonia Antolini kill knotted the score at 24-24, sending the set to "overtime." Despite an Eliana Szatkowski kill on the next rally, Cedar Crest grabbed the next three points for a 27-25 win.
- A 6-1 push separated the Mighty Macs from their opponent, as the score was 8-4. Tara Hirschtritt saw consecutive aces. A 7-1 outburst opened up the Cedar Crest deficit. Immaculata controlled the set the rest of the way, despite five straight points by the Falcons. A Cedar Crest attack error gave the Mighty Macs a 25-19 victory.
- The Mighty Macs wasted no time getting on the board in the third set by scoring the first nine points. They took advantage of multiple Falcons errors. Cedar Crest responded with seven points of their own. A Szatkowski ace put the lead to four, but Cedar Crest tied it at 14. With Immaculata up by two, the Falcons swung momentum with five straight points to take a three-point advantage. Cedar Crest won set three 25-20.
- Two Angelica Santini Bulerin kills in set four helped the Mighty Macs stay ahead of the Falcons 10-5. Even with this cushion of a lead, Cedar Crest soared back into the set with separate 5-0 and 8-0 pushes. The Mighty Macs were unable to make up ground, even with a few Cedar Crest errors. The Falcons grabbed the set 25-19, and the match 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST URSINUS
- The Mighty Macs claimed control to begin the second match of the day, despite Ursinus trailing close. A 7-0 Bears run provided them a lead after being behind three. Ursinus finished set one with seven of the last eight points for a 25-18 win.
- Immaculata took advantage in the second set with a few Ursinus errors. A Hirschtritt ace tied the score at 12. Even with the Mighty Macs staying in striking distance of the home team, the Bears held on with the final being 25-20.
- Lucy Copeland subbed in off the bench and immediately recorded an ace to tie the score 3-3. Immaculata regained the lead on a 5-1 push to go up 13-11. Kills by Vienna Mascieri and Hirschtritt, and an Ursinus attack error, forced the Bears to call timeout. Kyle logged the last two points of the set via kills, with the Mighty Macs claiming a 25-19 win.
- Immaculata and Ursinus were neck-and-neck in the initial rallies, as the Mighty Macs had a 4-3 lead on a Bears attack error. However, a monster 15-1 explosion was enough for the home team to control the lead for good. The Mighty Macs saw a 7-1 run, but Ursinus won set four 25-10, and the match 3-1.
