Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.-The Immaculata field hockey team got off to a great start in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium as they cruised to a 9-1 victory over Cedar Crest (0-6, 0-1 CSAC) in their conference opener. The Mighty Macs (4-6, 1-0 CSAC) had five different goal scorers and netted the first eight goals of the contest.
Senior
Ashley O'Donnell continued her dominant senior season by scoring a hat trick to reach 11 goals on the season. Freshman
Brooke Robinson scored the first two goals of her career, and junior
Patsy Murphy also added two tallies to give her five in her last four games. Freshmen
Nicole Dominick and
Rachel Haines each had the first goal and assist of their careers in the win.
Sophomore goalie
Christine McIntyre played a shutout first half with one save, and sophomore goalies
Emily Beavers and
Gina Rucci combined to allow one goal and make three saves in the second half.
The Mighty Macs put four goals on the board in the first half to take a commanding lead early. In the ninth minute, sophomore
Brittany Baker sent a cross near the goal mouth that Murphy deflected in for the first strike of the game. In the 15
th minute, O'Donnell would add another goal as she carried from just inside midfield and scored on a hard shot from just inside the circle.
Robinson would then score the first two goals of her college career two minutes apart in the 26
th and 28
th minutes. The first came on a pass from her fellow freshman Dominick, and the second came on a rebound to send the Mighty Macs to the locker room up 4-0.
In the second half, IU would score four goals in a 7:07 stretch to put the game away. O'Donnell would score the first and last goals in the 43
rd and 50
th minutes, respectively. Haines and Dominick would each score the first goals of their careers in between to build the large advantage.
Cedar Crest would get on the board in the 57
th minute, but moments before the final whistle, Murphy put the exclamation point on the win with a goal off a rebound to reach the 9-1 final.
The Mighty Macs will move back out of conference this Wednesday when they travel to DeSales for a 3:30 p.m. start.
