Field Hockey Drops 2-1 Decision To Moravian

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata field hockey was looking to put together a two-game winning streak when they hosted Moravian on Saturday afternoon, but the Greyhounds (2-1) scored a 49th minute goal to give them a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish.  Freshman Brittany Baker scored the lone goal for the Mighty Macs in the 22nd minute to tie the game.  Immaculata had two untimed corners after time expired, but were unable to cash in and tie the game.

Moravian got on the board first after applying heavy pressure early.  Freshman goalie Christine McIntyre played well picking up five saves in the first 15 minutes before the Greyhounds broke through.  Kelly O'Donnell executed a perfect give and go with Catherine Duffin to put Moravian on top 1-0 in the 19th minute.

The Mighty Macs didn't waste much time in evening the game back up at 1-1.  Junior Ashley O'Donnell carried the ball deep into the Moravian zone and put a perfect pass to the far post that was deflected in by Baker for the first goal of her collegiate career.  The assist from O'Donnell is her first of the season after leading the team in points in 2012 with 17.

In the 49th minute, the Greyhounds scored the decisive goal off the stick of Chelsea Grotyohann who ripped a shot from the top of the circle that got past second half freshman goalie Sarah Pasternak.

After falling behind, Immaculata applied consistent offensive pressure throughout the rest of the game, but were unable to score the tying goal.  O'Donnell and sophomore Lindsay Cras each had chances that were turned away by Moravian goalie Andrea Eck.

Pasternak was also strong in goal picking up eight saves as she and McIntyre combined to stop 14 Moravian shots.

The Mighty Macs will stay in non-conference play when they travel to Bryn Mawr for a 4 p.m. game on Wednesday.

NOTES: This is the third consecutive game where at least one Mighty Mac picked up their first career point … Patsy Murphy scored her first career goal against Widener on August 30th and Jamie Radetich got her first assist against Goucher on Thursday afternoon.
