Volleyball Comes Away Victorious On Senior Night, 3-2

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's volleyball team was able to rally back to defeat Cedar Crest College, 3-2, in its 2013 home finale on Thursday night. The Mighty Macs won the match 23-25, 25-18, 26-28, 25-21 and 15-12  to send their three seniors off with a victory on what was also Dig Pink night at Alumnae Hall.
 
Jamie Rombach led the Mighty Maxs with 15 kills while adding 13 digs for a double-double performance. Alexandra Okoro, Rebecca McDonald and Allison Lang all finished with nine kills apiece. Okoro and McDonald also had two block assists, while Lang put up four total blocks (one solo, three assisted). Marissa Casella added eight kills and four block assists, and Andrea Okoro made eight kills.
 
Brittany Thompson set up 27 kills for the Mighty Macs while Maranda Jones had 18 assists and eight digs. Molly Truitt recorded a team-leading 29 digs, and Haley Swearer made nine digs.
 
The fourth set was a swing game in the beginning as both side were able to get ahead by the slimmest of margins. Cedar Crest held a two-point advantage (13-11) when Immaculata was able to put together a five-straight points to pull out, 16-13. The Mighty Macs never trailed after that point even though the Falcons cut the hosts lead to just 21-20.
 
Cedar Crest jumped out to a 5-1 lead to begin the fifth set and forced Immaculata to call a timeout. The Mighty Macs won the next two points after the timeout and eventually tied the score at 7-7. The Falcons again took the advantage and for the last time at 12-10. The Mighty Macs were able to stop the Falcons momentum and score the last five points to win the match 15-12 in the fifth set.
 
Immaculata improved to 8-14 overall and 4-6 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC). Cedar Crest dropped to 8-11, 2-7 CSAC.
 
Immaculata will be in action on Saturday at the New jersey City Invitational. The Mighty Macs' first match will be at 11 a.m. against host NJCU.
