ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University's baseball team split its final Colonial States Athletic Conference twinbill of the 2010 season with Neumann University on Saturday afternoon as the Mighty Macs took game one, 9-8, before falling in the nightcap, 9-3.
Immaculata is now 12-23 overall and ends the CSAC slate at 6-12. Neumann improves to 18-14-1 overall and 12-6 in the CSAC.
In game one, Patrick Boulware went 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. David News, Matt Hardy and Richard Cusic all had two hits while Hardy had three RBI. Brandon Seibert was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Ernell Harley started for Immaculata but only lasted one-third of an inning after giving up five runs, four of them earned, on four hits. Andrew Dietrich (1-5) came on and pitched 6.1 innings to pick up his first win of the year. He allowed three runs on six hits, struck out four and walked three. Cusic came on for the final out in the seventh to get credit for the save.
Neumann opened the first game by putting five runs on the board in the first inning. Immaculata got two runs back in the bottom half of the first and tallied another in the second.
Immaculata tallied three in the bottom of the fourth with Hardy's two-run triple the big hit of the rally. Brandon Seibert singled in the other run to put the Mighty Macs up 6-5.
The Knights answered back with a three-spot in the top of the fifth. However, Immaculata pushed three more runs across in its half of the fifth. David News hit a sacrifice fly and Cusic singled in a run.
In the nightcap, Neumann jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. The Knights added another tally in the fourth, before Immaculata scored its only three runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Andrew Ellis (1-1) suffered the loss for the Mighty Macs. He lasted 1.2 innings and allowed six runs, just three of them earned, on three hits. He walked four and struck out one. Joseph Caria pitched the final 5.1 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits.
Siebert and Chris Dickinson each knocked in a run in that three-run fourth for the Mighty Macs.
Immaculata concludes its inaugural baseball season Sunday with a non-league doubleheader at Wesley College.
