Baseball Falls In Series Opener Against Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa.
- Marywood University defeated Immaculata University, 13-4, on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball action to open up the weekend series between the two teams.

Marywood got on the board with a three-run top half to the second, and the Pacers gained another run in the top of the third.

The Mighty Macs (8-12, 3-4 CSAC) knotted the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the frame on four unearned runs.  David News singled, Patrick Boulware walked and Matt Hardy reached on an error to set up Brandon Seibert's two-RBI single to left field. Joe Rawlings then reached base to load the bases for Richard Cusic. Cusic then singled to center field, scoring Hardy and Seibert, but the Pacers would able to get out of the inning without any further damage by the Mighty Macs.

Marywood, however, would add three more runs over the next two innings, and use a four-run eighth inning to break the game open.

David News was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Mighty Macs, while Brandon Seibert was 2-for-5 with the two RBI.

Ernell Harley Jr. (2-1) took the loss for Immaculata after allowing nine earned runs on 15 hits over seven innings. Kevin Leitzel and Andrew McCoy each pitched one inning, with Leitzel allowing one unearned run on no hits. McCoy gave up two runs on three hits.

The Pacers (10-12, 5-2 CSAC) got a strong performance from Jason Bugno who went 4-for-5 and finished a homerun shy of the cycle, and Nicholas Pasqualichio also had a four-hit performance. 

Marywood starting pitched Tim Freda (4-1) went seven innings without allowing an earned run to pick up the win. He allowed seven hits, walked three and struck out 10.

Immaculata returns to Marywood's home field Sunday at 12 p.m. to close out its three-game regular season series with a twin-bill.
