Immaculata Diamondmen Pick Up Win

Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Clothier Field in Swarthmore, Pa. was the setting for an historic moment in Immaculata baseball history as the visiting Mighty Macs picked up the program's first win with a 9-2 verdict over host Swarthmore College in Immaculata's inaugural season.

Rick Gehman went 3-for-5 with three RBI, and Aaron Dietrich (1-1) picked up the institution's first win on the mound after lasting six innings and surrendering one earned run on three hits. Dietrich's twin brother, Andrew, was 3-for-4 at the plate in support of his sibling's effort on the hill.

The Mighty Macs broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run second, highlighted by Gehman's two-run RBI. Immaculata would add two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to open up a 7-1 advantage. Swarthmore responded with one in the bottom of the seventh. However, Immaculata tacked on one each in the eighth and ninth just for good measure.

Kris Hazlett plated two runners with a single to center in the fifth inning that pushed the visitor's lead to 6-1. He finished 1-for-3 on the day.

Richard Cusic tossed two scoreless innings of relief for Immaculata. He gave up one hit. Kevin Leitzel finished up in the ninth, allowing two hits.

Immaculata (1-5) takes the field in its first conference game of the season on Friday afternoon at Centenary. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
