IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata's volleyball squad ended up on the short end of a five-set match against Cedar Crest Saturday morning in Colonial States Athletic Conference action at Alumnae Hall.
Cedar Crest (4-7, 1-1 CSAC) won the match with set scores of 24-26, 25-16, 25-21, 23-25 and 15-12. It marked the third consecutive match in which Immaculata (2-9, 1-1 CSAC) has pushed it to five sets.
Immaculata had two players with a double-double as Nicole Preziuso and Jayme Lenosky each accomplished the feat in kills and digs. Preziuso amassed 12 kills and 12 digs while Lenosky had 12 kills and a team-best 20 digs.
The Mighty Macs squeaked out the 26-24 win in the opener as Courtney Sahm and Lenosky each smacked down kills to close out the set. Immaculata had previously led 19-10 when Cedar Crest won 11 of the next 13 points to eventually tie the score at 21-all.
The Falcons controlled the tempo of the second set, running out to an 8-2 lead, and never allowing the Mighty Macs to catch up.
The third set was a see-saw battle early as neither team was able to pull more than one point ahead, until Cedar Crest won eight of 10 points to extend their margin to 13-8. Immaculata fought its way back into the match, but Cedar Crest was able to close it out 25-21.
The fourth set was another battle as the Mighty Macs trailed by five points early and came back to knot the set at 10-10. Immaculata then took the advantage, and would hold the lead until Cedar Crest tied the set at 20-all. The set remained tied at 22-22, when Lenosky's service ace put the Mighty Macs up by one, and a block by Amanda Pritchard set up set-point for the Mighty Macs. Two points later, Lindsey Silvestro had a kill to close it out.
The deciding set was another back-and-forth affair that featured six ties and two lead changes. Cedar Crest trailed Immaculata, 10-7, when the Falcons got the swing they needed, winning six straight points to take the 13-10 lead, and closed the match out, 15-12.
Kathleen Haefner finished with 38 assists, nine digs and six kills. Silvestro tallied 10 kills, and Sahm made 15 digs.
Cedar Crest was led by three double-doubles from Lauren Seale, Amanda Dombroski and Mackenzie Lee. Seale had 34 assists and 15 digs, Dombroski amassed 13 kills and 20 digs, and Lee tallied 13 kills and 12 digs.
Immaculata returns to action on Tuesday night as it travels to Gwynedd-Mercy at 7 p.m. for another CSAC match.
