Baseball Set to Open the Atlantic East Conference Tournament at Marymount on Wednesday

THE STORYLINE 

  • The Immaculata baseball team (12-25, 7-8 AEC) enter the Atlantic East Conference Tournament as three-time defending champions and are the No. Four seed. They will play No. One seed Marymount in the first round of the double-elimination tournament at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va. 

  • Immaculata enters the AEC Tournament after sweeping Marymount in a doubleheader at the IU Baseball Stadium on Saturday to clinch their spot in the tournament. 

  • Marymount (21-19, 11-4 AEC) enter the AEC Tournament as the No. One seed and host. Since Capital One Park is unavailable this weekend, the AEC Tournament will shift for Friday and Saturday to Kevin Anderson Field at Bridgeforth Stadium at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. 

SERIES HISTORY 

  • Immaculata and Marymount are meeting for the 22nd time in their series that began in 2019. 

  • Immaculata is 10-11 all-time vs Marymount. 

POST SEASON MEETINGS 

  • Immaculata defeated Marymount 9-0 on May 10, 2024, in the AEC Tournament at Winchester, Va. 

  • In the 2022 AEC Tournament at Immaculata, the Mighty Macs defeated Marymount 5-1 on May 13, 2022, to win their first AEC Championship. Immaculata also defeated Marymount 2-1 on May 11, 2022, earlier in the Tournament. 

  • Marymount defeated Immaculata 10-5 in the Finals of the AEC Tournament in Washington, D.C. to win their Atlantic East Conference Championship. 

MIGHTY MAC NOTES 

  • Matt Passerini leads Immaculata batting .398 (45-113) with 35 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, and 17 RBIs. 

  • Will Kelley is batting .390 (32-82) with 18 runs scored and 21 RBIs. 

  • Steven Theisen is batting .354 (45-127) with 29 runs scored, 11 doubles, two home runs, and a team-leading 33 RBIs. Theisen was named AEC Player of the Week on Monday for hitting a combined 5-12 (.417), with three runs scored, and five RBIs in the final week of the regular season helping to lead Immaculata to a 3-1 record this week, and back to the AEC playoffs.  

  • Sal Serici is batting .331 (41-124) with 23 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, and 14 RBIs. 

  • Nick Turnage is batting .295 (26-88) with 10 runs scored, three doubles, and 14 RBIs. 

  • Ryan Nace is batting .268 (22-82) with 23 runs and, five doubles, two triples, two home runs and 24 RBIs. 

  • Alex LePage is 6-5 with a 3.39 ERA in 11 starts. He has four complete games and has 72 strikeouts in 63.2 innings pitched. 

  • Jordan Silvestri is 3-3 in 10 appearances with seven starts. He has two complete games, one shutout and has 34 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched. 

  • Stephen Devanney is 2-3 with a 3.37 ERA in seven starts. He has 23 strikeouts, in 34.2 innings pitched. Devanney was named AEC Pitcher of the Week on Monday for his win vs Gwynedd Mercy on April 28 going 6.2 scoreless innings allowing only two hits, and had seven strikeouts to help keep Immaculata's playoff hopes alive. 

SCOUTING THE AEC TOURNMENT OPPONENTS 

  • Marymount finished tied for first place with Neumann with both teams going 11-4 in AEC play. Marymount won the head-to-head tiebreaker to earn the first seed and hosting duties. 

  • Neumann enters the AEC Tournament following their best season in many years going 11-4 in AEC play. Neumann took two out three from Immaculata this season. Neumann will host Centenary in their first-round game on Wednesday. 

  • Centenary earned their program's first ever playoff berth this season after going 8-7 in AEC play. The Cyclones took the season series from Immaculata 2-1. 

HEAD COACH JOSH COPSKEY ON THE ATLANTIC EAST CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT 

"We are excited to be back in the playoffs again," said Head Coach Josh Copskey. "This is a fresh start for us where the regular season statistics do not mean anything at all. All about winning one game at a time." 

Immaculata will face a tough task on Wednesday as they matchup against Marymount for the fourth straight game. When asked what his team will need to do to be successful in the tournament Copskey said "We need to play well, execute, and take advantage of mistakes made by the teams we are playing." 

"It has been an interesting run so far this year," concluded Copskey. "Looking to play our best ball at the end." 

AEC TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE 

Wednesday, May 7th 

Game 1: #4 Immaculata at #1 Marymount 3:30 p.m. 

Game 2: #3 Centenary at #2 Neumann 3:30 p.m. 

The remainder of the Tournament is at Kevin Anderson Field at Bridgeforth Stadium at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. 

Friday, May 9th 

Game 3: Loser of Game 1 vs Loser of Game 2 (Loser Eliminated) 

Game 4: Winner of Game 1 vs Winner of Game 2 

Game 5: Winner of Game 3 vs Loser of Game 4 (Loser Eliminated) 

Saturday, May 10th 

Game 6: Winner of Game 4 vs Winner of Game 5 

Game 7: Repeat game if necessary (switch home and away)   

The winner of the Conference Championship will earn the AEC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
