IMMACULATA, Pa. – The No. 4 Immaculata women's lacrosse team is set for their Atlantic East Semifinal matchup against No. 1 Cabrini on Wednesday. Wednesday's matchup, will be Immaculata's first semifinal appearance since 2018 when the Macs competed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The Mighty Macs earned their way into the Semifinals by defeating No. 5 Marywood 9-7 in the Atlantic East Quarterfinals on Saturday. The Macs claimed a 5-1 lead early in the second quarter while keeping the Pacers' offense to only one goal in the first half.
Jackie Murray scored three goals on the contest while
Tessa Liberatoscioli and
Liza Laxton each scored two goals.
"Our defense played outstanding on Saturday," opened head coach
Nicole Barretta. To force Marywood into so many shot clock violations was super impressive for us and something that we will look to continue on Wednesday."
The Mighty Macs and Cavaliers opened up conference play on March 31
st. The Macs dropped the match 25-12 with Liberatoscioli scoring five goals and two assists on the game. Murray led the team with seven shots on goal, scoring four goals overall.
"We have learned a lot from our matchup against Cabrini early this year," described Barretta. "They are the team to beat every year, so having the opportunity to face them early helped set the stage for us and what to prepare for the rest of conference play."
Cabrini, meanwhile, enters the Semifinals coming off a bye in the Quarterfinal. The No. 1 seed ended the season with a 9-7 overall record, going 5-0 in conference play. Seniors Dana Carlson and Olivia Little are the Cavaliers' main threats on the offensive side, scoring a combined 120 goals on the year while combining for 178 points overall. Sam Hamalak, meanwhile, serves as the Cavaliers' main presence in net, allowing 161 goals on 95 saves over the course of the season.
The Mighty Macs' battle with the Cavaliers for a chance to compete in the Atlantic East Championship will take place on Wednesday, May 4
th at Edith Robb Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini University.
"In order to win on Wednesday, we have to focus on what we can control and take the game one play at a time. Lacrosse is a game of runs, so we will need to keep our emotions in check and manage the game well to come out on top," concluded Barretta.
