"Our team's patience and maturity were absolutely outstanding on Saturday," explained head coach
Richard Punt. "Gwynedd Mercy worked incredibly hard in the first half and did a great job keeping themselves in the game. We didn't panic and kept our focus on how we wanted to play, knowing that if we executed, we were more than capable of getting the result we wanted."
Josh Fonder earned a goal on a penalty kick as well as an assist on Saturday to lead the Mighty Macs.
EJ Martin,
Christian Wuertz, and
Matthew Kirkpatrick all scored as well. The Macs outshot the Griffins 38-2 on the match, creating goalkeeper
Garrett Pepper's fourth shutout (sixth combined) on the season in net.
Neumann, meanwhile, comes into Tuesday's match off a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Marywood. Marlon Trejo recorded two goals and one assist to lead the Knights while Sam Clavijo recorded a goal as well.
"Neumann will be a completely different game," detailed Punt. "Having won the conference in 2018, they know how to win and have also gotten some really good results in the second half of the season. So, it will be a really tough game. For us, we need to focus on how we play the game and look to execute our game plan."
The last time the Macs and Knights clashed came on Wednesday, October 20
th. The Mighty Macs defeated the Knights on the road 2-0 on the night in a hard-fought match.
