Fort Pierce, Fl.- The Mighty Macs baseball team dropped its final game of spring break 9-2 against Monmouth College on Friday morning. Immaculata (6-7) finished 4-3 on the trip, including a three game winning streak to begin the spring break.

Chris Szekeres drove in both runs for Immaculata as Josh Crowding and Stephen Trendler each registered extra base hits in the finale.

Senior Timmy Newell earned the start for Immaculata and turned in a solid outing. He danced around trouble all afternoon scattering six hits and four walks, but struck out four and allowed two earned runs in 4.2 innings of action.

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, Immaculata evened up the score after a two RBI single by Szekeres. Greg Dahl started the rally with a hit by pitch and swiped second to get a runner in scoring position for Richard Fontanillas. Fontanillas delivered a single and would steal second to put runners on second and third with no outs. The Scots nearly escaped the threat after getting a ground out and a pop out, but Szekeres ripped the two out single to even up the score after five innings.

Monmouth College answered in the top half of the sixth with four runs on three hits, while benefiting from three Mighty Macs miscues to take a 6-2 lead. The Scots went on to score one more in the seventh and two more in the ninth to hold on for the 9-2 win. Crowding was the lone Mighty Mac to pick up a hit in the final four innings as he tripled to right field in the seventh.

The Mighty Macs will look to resume its schedule when Atlantic East Board of Directors will reconvene on Friday, March 27th to further assess the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
