SCRANTON, Pa.- For the sixth consecutive season, the No. 3 Immaculata women's lacrosse team (14-3) will travel on the road for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semifinals, this time for a meeting against the No. 2 Marywood University Pacers (10-6). The game will be played at Marywood at 6 p.m.
The Mighty Macs have won a program record 14 games this season and will ride a 10-game winning streak into this evening's game. With a victory, the Mighty Macs would advance to the CSAC Championship for the first time in program history. In their previous five attempts, the Mighty Macs have fallen to Cabrini four times and Neumann once.
On Saturday, the Mighty Macs dispatched of No. 6 Gwynedd Mercy by a score of 20-11. The Macs led 3-1 early, before falling behind 4-3. From there, the Mighty Macs ripped off six straight goals and 11 of the next 13 to take a 14-6 lead at the half. IU scored the first three of the second half and never looked back in the victory. Six different IU players recorded at least two goals on the day, led by sophomore
Layne Kennedy with five and freshman Maura Murray with four. Senior
Nicole Dominick had a great day as the facilitator with a single game record six assists for the Mighty Macs.
The Mighty Macs and Pacers faced each other once earlier this season on March 24
th, and Marywood turned a five goal game at the half into a 19-5 rout. Marywood raced out to a 7-1 lead before the Macs rallied with a pair of goals from senior
Brittany Whaley to cut into the deficit, but the Pacers took an 8-3 lead to the locker room. The Macs then scored the first goal of the second half from Kennedy to make it 8-4, but Marywood scored the next five, and after a Murray tally, the Pacers scored the final six.
Marywood held a 38-15 advantage in shots and turned it over only 12 times to 26 for the Macs. Marywood was led by Zoe Simeone with five goals and Sam Bussinelli with three goals and three assists.
Bussinelli led the team with 48 goals and 31 assists for 79 points, followed by Gwyneth Gleason with 35 goals and 18 assists.
