Mighty Macs Record Setting Season Heads To Playoffs

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The No. 3 seeded Immaculata University women's lacrosse team will put their record breaking season on the line this Saturday as they start play in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason, hosting No. 6 Gwynedd Mercy at 1 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.

The Macs are 13-3, the most wins in school history, and are carrying a school-record nine-game winning streak into the CSAC Quarterfinal matchup.  With a win, the Macs will travel to No. 2 Marywood this coming Wednesday while the Griffins would go to No. 1 Cabrini should they pull off the upset.

These two teams met just 10 days ago on Tuesday, April 17th at Draper Walsh Stadium in a very high scoring game that saw the Macs tie the program record for goals scored in a game with a 24-14 victory.  The game was tight at the break as the Macs held a 9-7 lead, but IU broke it open with a scoring barrage in the second half en route to the victory.  Sophomore Layne Kennedy scored eight goals, tied for the most in a game in program history, while senior Hannah Verrecchia netted five and senior Brittany Whaley scored four times.  For Gwynedd Mercy, Victoria Baeunle scored seven goals and Alyssa Tomsic scored three.

Verrecchia earned First Team All-CSAC with another outstanding season where she scored 46 goals and gave out 20 assists for 66 points, all good for second most on the team.  Kennedy was named Second Team All-CSAC as she set the single season IU record with 61 goals while adding 13 assists.  Whaley earned Second Team All-CSAC with 43 goals and 17 assists, and freshman Maura Murray had a strong rookie campaign with 34 goals and 19 assists.  Senior Nicole Dominick set the single season program record with 39 assists to go with 10 goals.

Defensively, the Macs are entered by Second Team All-CSAC sophomore Anna DiDonato and Honorable Mention All-CSAC sophomore Molly Gallagher.  Junior Lex Goerlach is undefeated in her nine starts this year.

Braeunle was named CSAC Rookie of the Year and has scored 66 goals and has 98 points total.  Tomsic has scored 64 goals as the two of them have combined for 130 of the team's 250 goals this season.
