Men's Lacrosse Falls In Double Overtime At Marywood, 13-12

SCRANTON, Pa. – Immaculata's men's lacrosse team was handed its first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) loss Saturday afternoon in double overtime on the road at Marywood University, 13-12.
 
The host Pacers (5-8, 2-1 CSAC) scored six-straight goals during the final 6:38 of regulation to tie the game at 12-all and force overtime. After neither team was able to score the winning goal in the first four-minute overtime period, with 1:49 to go in the second overtime, Marywood's Rob Maini scored his fourth goal of the afternoon to lift the Pacers to the comeback victory.
 
Immaculata and Marywood were tied 1-1 after the first quarter, but the Mighty Macs outscored the Pacers during the second quarter, 5-1, for the 6-2 halftime lead. Mike Reardon scored four goals, and Brian Shultis had two goals to lead the Mighty Macs' offense at the break.
 
Immaculata (3-7, 2-1 CSAC) added to its lead in the third quarter by outscoring Marywood, 3-2, for a 9-4 edge heading into the final quarter of play. Reardon tallied all three goals for the Mighty Macs in the frame.
 
The Mighty Macs scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter as Hughes scored his first goal of the day, and Shultis scored his third goal of the game. Immaculata had a seven-goal lead with 10:46 remaining in the contest, and seemed to have the game in control. Matt Casto scored two goals just one-minute apart for Marywood, turning the game into a five-goal lead for Immaculata, 11-6.
 
Hughes scored once more for Immaculata at the 6:58 mark to extend the lead back to six goals (12-6), and that is when Marywood started its comeback.
 
Reardon finished the afternoon with seven goals and two assists. Shultis recorded three goals and two assists, and Hughes had two goals and two assists. Tyler Black also assisted on three Immaculata goals.
 
Hughes led the team with 15 ground balls and was 7-for-22 on face-offs. Black picked up seven ground balls, and Shultis added six ground balls.
 
Denton States took the loss in goal for Immaculata allowing 12 goals and making 11 saves. Connor Shea played 32 seconds in the crease for the Mighty Macs giving up one Pacer goal.
 
Immaculata has another CSAC road test on Tuesday night as the Mighty Macs travel to Gwynedd Mercy at 7 p.m.
