McCormick, Simon Lead Macs To Tenth Straight Win

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- For the second season in a row, the Immaculata baseball team (11-3) has put together a 10-game winning streak as they polished off a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) sweep of Cabrini (7-9, 1-5 CSAC) on Monday afternoon at the IU Baseball Field, 6-3.  The Macs have now extended their program-best CSAC start to 6-0.

Junior Eddie Decker (3-0) was great on the mound as he went six innings and struck out a career-high nine while allowing only two runs.

Offensively, senior Jason McCormick (2 R, BB, 3 SB) and senior Matt Simon (2 R, 2 2B, RBI) had three hits each.

The Mighty Macs got the scoring started in the second inning after a 1-2-3 first by Decker.  Junior third baseman Justin Dempsey (1-for-4, R) singled to left-center and Simon followed with a double to left-center to put two runners in scoring position with nobody out.  Dempsey scored on a wild pitch, and senior right fielder Dom Ficca (1-for-4, RBI) brought in Simon with a fielder's choice to put them up 2-0.

Decker put up another zero in the bottom of the frame, and the Macs tacked on another as McCormick singled, moved to second on a groundout, to third on a bunt, and scored on an error to make it 3-0 midway through the third.

The Macs kept up the offense as senior first baseman Ryan Tecco (1-for-3, R, RBI) walked, stole second, moved to third on an error, and scored on a groundout by junior second baseman Pat Devenney.

Decker continued to throw well as he put up five straight shutout innings before running into trouble in the sixth when Cabrini scored a pair of two-out runs to make it 4-2 through six.

Sophomore Billy Manzo came on and struck out the side in the seventh, and the Macs tacked on another run as Simon doubled to left-center and came around on an RBI single by Tecco.

Cabrini got one in the eighth, but the Macs loaded the bases in the ninth and an RBI single by Simon again in the ninth brought the lead back to three at 6-3.

Senior Kyle Bacher came on again in the save for his fifth save of the season to wrap up the Macs tenth consecutive victory.

The Macs are set to host TCNJ at 4 p.m. at the IU Baseball Field.
