ASTON, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team went on the road for a critical Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game on Thursday afternoon, and the Macs (7-6, 4-3 CSAC) were edged in double overtime by Neumann (6-8, 5-2 CSAC) by a score of 13-12.

Freshman
Layne Kennedy had four goals, and junior
Hannah Verrecchia had six points on three goals and three assists. Junior
Brittany Whaley had four points on three goals and one assist, and junior
Olivia Carter had two goals.

Whaley led the team with three caused turnovers and freshman
Emily Schumann had eight groundballs along with 11 saves in the cage.

The game was close throughout, starting in the first half as the Macs edged Neumann 7-6 in the opening 30 minutes.Â

The Macs raced out to a 4-1 lead on goals by Whaley, two by Kennedy, and another by Carter with 22:09 to go in the first half. Neumann stopped the run, but Carter scored on an assist by junior
Rosemarie Reitman to make it 5-2.

After a goal by Neumann, Kennedy and Verrecchia scored to make it 7-3, but the Knights scored three straight to make it 7-6 before half.

After half, the Macs scored on goals by Kennedy and Whaley to extend the lead to 9-6, but Neumann scored five straight to take an 11-9 lead with 17:30 to go in the game.

The Macs then scored three of the next four goals to tie the game at 12-12 by the end of regulation.

Verrecchia scored before Neumann scored a goal to make it 12-10 with 14:36 to go. Whaley scored on a free position with 8:30 to go, and Verrecchia netted a huge goal with 31 seconds remaining to tie the game at 12-12 with 31 seconds remaining.

The game would remain tied throughout the first overtime before Neumann netted the game winner in double overtime to take the game 13-12.

The Mighty Macs will return home on Tuesday when they host Rosemont at 6 p.m. for Senior Day.
