FREDERICK, Md.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (2-2) travelled to Hood College for a non-conference game on their way back from their spring break trip on Saturday afternoon, and in a tight contest, sophomore
Bailey Krewson scored late to break an 8-8 tie and give IU the 9-8 victory over the Blazers (2-4).

Brittany Whaley led the Macs again with three goals while junior
Hannah Verrecchia (eight groundballs, three caused turnovers) had four points on two goals and two assists. Freshman
Layne Kennedy had two goals and one assist, and Krewson and junior
Nicole Dominick each scored one goal.

Emily Schumann made 11 stops in the cage for IU.

The game was very evenly played as both sides had 26 shots.Â

The Mighty Macs played a strong first half as they scored five of the first six goals of the game. Both teams were scoreless through the first 13 minutes of the game, until Kennedy scored and Verrecchia got her first of the day on junior
Rosemarie Reitman's first of two assists on the day.

The Blazers then got on the board, but Whaley scored twice and Dominck got on the board from Reitman to put the Macs in front 5-1 with 10 minutes to go before the half. Kennedy scored on an assist from senior
Meredith Katona around two Blazer goals to send the Macs to the half on top 6-3.

Hood scored the first goal of the second half, but Verrecchia and Whaley each scored to extend the lead back to four goals at 8-4. From there, the Macs were held scoreless for 12 minutes and Hood came charging back to tie the game with four straight goals.

That's when Krewson delivered her first goal of the season to put the Macs up 9-8. IU then won the draw and were able to hold the ball for the final five minutes of the game to preserve the victory.

The Macs will stay out of conference play and travel to King's College on Wednesday night.
