DOVER, Del. – Immaculata's men's lacrosse team put together a strong second half, and outscored Wesley during the final 30 minutes, but it was the hosts Wolverines with the 12-10 non-conference victory against the Mighty Macs on Saturday afternoon.
Immaculata (0-2) was paced by
Mike Reardon's three goals and two assists during the afternoon, while
Tyler Black had three goals, and
Doug Hughes added two goals and two assists.
Brian Shultis recorded one goal and two assists, and
McKenna Touey chipped in one goal and one assist.
Samuel Zingaro had one assist.
Wesley (2-1) came out scoring the first goal of the game less than two minutes into play. Black answered for the Mighty Macs on a man-up opportunity with 9:37 to play in the first quarter as Zingaro assisted to tie the game at 1-1. However, The Wolverines scored two-straight goals less than two minutes apart for a 3-1 lead. Hughes brought Immaculata within one goal (3-2) with 6:10 left in the first quarter, but Wesley took a 4-2 lead by the end of the quarter with its final tally with 3:26 to go.
Wesley added two more goals in the second quarter as the Wolverines had a 6-2 lead on the Mighty Macs. Immaculata stopped Wesley's three-goal spurt as it capitalized on another advantage opportunity at the 10:13 mark when Shultis scored on Reardon's pass to trim the deficit to 6-3.
Wesley went back ahead by four goals (7-3) with 7:39 to play in the second half, and after a five-minute scoreless stretch, Immaculata scored this time by Reardon and assisted by Shultis making the score 7-4. The Wolverines scored once more as the first half clock with ticking down, and the hosts led at halftime, 8-4.
The third quarter opened with Immaculata scoring twice just one minute apart cutting Wesley's lead to two goals, 8-6. Reardon, assisted by Touey, recorded the first goal of the second half with 13:40 to play on a man-up opportunity. The two then reversed action when Reardon set Touey up for a goal at the 12:42 mark.
Wesley's Joe Fingles scored his fourth goal of the afternoon with 8:05 left in the third quarter, but the quarter would not end before Immaculata scored once again at the 2:54 mark by Reardon from Hughes. Immaculata was down just two goals (9-7) to Wesley entering the final quarter of play.
The Wolverines extended their cushion back to three goals (10-7) with a tally from Nate Gemmato with 10:23 left in the contest. The Mighty Macs still had plenty of fight left in them as Black scored back-to-back goals just 33 seconds apart to bring Immaculata within one (10-9) with 9:43 to go.
After Wesley added one goal to the score (11-9) with just over four minutes to play, Immaculata tried its best to hold off the Wolverines and score two goals to even the game. Hughes got one goal back from the Mighty Macs with 1:46 left in regulation as Shultis had the assist. Immaculata won that next face-off as Black picked up the ground ball and gave the Mighty Macs a chance. However, Immaculata's shot went wide, and Wesley eventually got the ball back scoring another goal with just seconds remaining in the game.
Black and Hughes each had six ground balls to lead Immaculata, and Hughes caused two Welsey turnovers. Shultis and
Jake Kemble both scooped up three loose balls.

Immaculata hosts Moravian on Wednesday, March 1, at 4 p.m. to open up a three-game home stand of the Mighty Macs.
