Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.-On a beautiful Thursday afternoon the Immaculata women's lacrosse team (0-1) opened their 2017 season at home against the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (1-0), and the Macs fell 19-9 to the Blue Jays.

Junior
Brittany Whaley led the way offensively with three goals, while
Layne Kennedy and
Rosemarie Reitman had two goals each.

In the first half the Blue Jays opened the scoring quickly as they broke through just five minutes into the game when Madelyn Baker took an assist from Addie Stang to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.
Brittany Whaley would answer back just a few minutes later with a goal of her own off an assist from
Nicole Dominick. The Jays scored again with 25:42 left in the half when Dana Robidoux score an unassisted goal to push the lead to 2-1. This would start a 4-0 Elizabethtown run over the next five minutes when Alison McLamb, Madelyn Baker, and Carly Thompson all scored thanks to two assists from Katie Thompson and an assist from Addie Stang.

The Macs would end the run with 17:54 left in the half when
Rosemarie Reitman took an assist from Whaley to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Jays. The Jays would go on another 4-0 run when Dana Robidoux, Carly Thompson, Katie Thompson, and Addie Stang all broke through to build the lead. The Macs would fight back when Whaley scored her second of the half, thanks to an assist from
Layne Kennedy. Kennedy scored the first goal of her career on an assist from
Nicole Dominick to bring score to 9-4. The Jays would score one more time in the first half when Baker dropped in another to end the half with the score at 10-4.

In the second half the Jays would resume their scoring by going on a 3-0 run to open the half. The Macs would end the run when Whaley netted her third of the game on an assist from Reitman with 24:16 left in the half. Following an Elizabethtown goal, he Macs would answer back with two quick goals from
Hannah Verrecchia and
Olivia Carter to make the score 14-7.

The Jays would not allow this seven goal margin to last very long as they went on yet another 3-0 run to put the game away. The Macs would answer back once again with an unassisted goal from Reitman to make the score 17-8. Elizabethtown scored twice more before Kennedy tallied her second of the game to bring the scoring to a close.

Freshman goalie
Emily Schumann played well in her debut making 11 saves while her counterpart Abby Kopytko ended the day with three saves and the victory. Â

Bailey Krewson led the Macs in groundballs with three and Reitman,
Jackie Wood, and Verrecchia ended the day with two apiece.

The Macs next game will be next Thursday afternoon March 2
nd when they host Wilkes beginning at 4 p.m.
