Women's Basketball Earns First CSAC Win Against Rosemont, 62-54

ROSEMONT, Pa. – Immaculata University women's basketball returned to action for the first time in 2017 following the holiday break picking up their first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win this season against Rosemont, 62-54.
 
Immaculata (1-9, 1-1 CSAC) was led by Tamyra Laws' double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds along with two blocks. Theresa Walsh and Amber Ballinger each scored in double figures for the Mighty Macs as Ballinger had 11 points and nine rebounds, while Walsh finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four steals. Annie Kohutka added eight points and seven rebounds. Erica Kramer had a team-leading four assists.
 
The Mighty Macs won the game by outscoring the Ravens, 26-14, during the third quarter. Immaculata trailed Rosemont, 25-19, at halftime, and was able to overtake the hosts (26-25) with 7:41 to play in the third quarter when Ballinger sunk a three-pointer. The Ravens (1-10, 0-3 CSAC) battled back to grab the lead, which they maintained until Kohutka put in a layup with 4:36 to play for the Mighty Macs to tie the contest at 32-all. Immaculata ended the final 4:36 of the quarter on a 13-7 run that put the guests up by six points (45-39). Laws poured in 10 points during the third stanza for the Mighty Macs.
 
Immaculata held the lead the entire fourth quarter, pushing its edge to as many as 13 (62-49) during the final minute. Rosemont had battled back earlier to come within five points (54-49) of Immaculata with four minutes to play. Points by Laws, Walsh and Ballinger down the stretch extended the Mighty Macs' lead and lifted them to the victory.
 
It was a slow start for the Mighty Macs who did not get their first field goal until the 5:11 mark of the first quarter making the score, 6-4. The Ravens didn't start out much better as they were also limited to one basket from the field during the opening five minutes. Rosemont had led by as many as 10 points (16-6) with 1:26 to go in the quarter, and the Ravens had a 16-9 advantage at the end of the quarter.
 
Immaculata chipped away at Rosemont's lead in the second quarter as it eventually made it a one-point contest (18-17) at the 4:12 mark following a jumper by Ballinger. However, Rosemont scored the next five points before Mamako Johnson could answer for Immaculata, and the Ravens scored the final basket of the half to lead, 25-19, at the break.
 
Immaculata was 32.4 percent from the field and 81.0 percent from the charity stripe, while the Mighty Macs also outrebounded the Ravens, 55-43.
 
Immaculata returns home on Thursday night hosting Cairn at 6 p.m.
