Women's Basketball Wins 79-37 At Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Immaculata University women's basketball won its second-straight contest as the Mighty Macs defeated the Cedar Crest College Falcons, 79-37, Saturday afternoon in a road Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest.
 
Immaculata improves to 5-12 overall and 5-3 in the CSAC. Cedar Crest falls to 3-12 overall, 1-8 CSAC.
 
Tamyra Laws posted a double-double once again with 20 points and 20 rebounds. Laws also added four blocked shots and two assists. Theresa Walsh scored a career high with 20 points, while adding six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Annie Kohutka also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points, while Gina Cocci added nine points and two assists. Amber Ballinger grabbed eight rebounds to go along with four steals, and Mamako Johnson had five rebounds. Erica Kramer finished with five points and four steals.
 
Immaculata took the lead just three seconds into the game as Laws had a layup, and the guests never trailed the rest of the way. The Mighty Macs had the early 13-2 advantage at the midway mark of the first quarter as Walsh poured in eight points for the guests. Immaculata led Cedar Crest by 10 (15-5) with 2:53 to play in the opening quarter when the Falcons went on a run to cut their deficit in half by the end of the quarter (18-13).
 
The Mighty Macs held the Falcons scoreless for almost the first six minutes of the second quarter while padding their lead to 26-13 by the 4:56 mark. Cedar Crest scored its first points of the second quarter with 4:12 left before halftime, but the Falcons would only get one more basketball the rest of the quarter. Immaculata ended the second quarter on a 7-0 run during the final 2:12 to lead 35-17 at halftime. Walsh had 14 points while Laws added eight point during the first 20 minutes.
 
Walsh and Laws continued to dominate the scoring for the Mighty Macs during the first four minutes of the third quarter as each chipped in four points to push Immaculata's advantage to 43-19 with 6:25 to play. Immaculata continued to grow its lead during the final five minutes of the third quarter as other Mighty Macs were getting in on the scoring to help build a 56-25 lead.
 
Immaculata continued its lead on Cedar Crest throughout the fourth quarter. The Mighty Macs outscored the Falcons, 23-12, during the final frame.
 
Immaculata was 31-for-75 (.413) from the field and 5 of 13 (.385) from three-point range. The Mighty Macs also shot 75 percent (12-16) from the free throw line. A key to victory for Immaculata was that it outrebounded Cedar Crest, 51-29, during the game.
 
Immaculata opens a two-game homes stand on Wednesday at 6 p.m. hosting Cabrini.
