IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team (4-12, 4-3 CSAC) picked up a huge Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victory on Wednesday night over Notre Dame (5-9, 3-5 CSAC) with a late fourth quarter charge to take down the Gators, 58-55.

Tamyra Laws with 16 points and 16 boards, and junior
Theresa Walsh with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Junior
Gina Cocci and sophomore
Amber Ballinger each had eight points and tied with a team-high five assists, while Ballinger had a team-best six steals.

The Mighty Macs led 31-24 at halftime and took a 13 point lead on two occasions, with the latest coming on a jumper by Ballinger at the 2:48 mark to put them up 43-30. The Gators closed the quarter with a 9-3 spurt to cut the deficit to 46-39 heading to the fourth.

The Gators opened the quarter with a 7-0 spurt and tied the game at 46-46 with 7:49 remaining. A lay-up by Laws put the Macs back on top, but Notre Dame took a 52-50 lead with 4:22 to go.

Both teams then struggled from the field for the next two minutes, but Cocci got a fastbreak opportunity on a steal by Ballinger to tie the game at 52 with 2:24 remaining. The next time down the floor, Walsh converted a layup to put the Macs in front, 54-52.

A free throw by Ballinger at the 54 second mark extended the advantage to 55-52, and another by Cocci made it 56-52 with 24 seconds to go. The Gators would trim it to one point with 17 seconds left, but Ballinger calmly sank two free throw to swell the lead back to three, and the IU defense held for the victory.

The Mighty Macs led the entire first half as they led 17-9 at the end of the first quarter and 31-24 at the half.

The Macs will travel to Cedar Crest on Saturday in search of their third straight CSAC victory.Â
