Women's Basketball Gets Big Road Win, 86-31, At Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's basketball team ran out to a double-figure lead by the end of the first quarter, and the visiting Mighty Macs never looked back on Saturday as they defeated Clarks Summit, 86-31, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game.
 
Immaculata (3-11, 3-3 CSAC) placed three players in double digits in the scoring column, led by Tamyra Laws, who had 23 points and eight rebounds. Laws also added four assists, two blocked shots and three steals. Gina Cocci and Amber Ballinger each finished with 10 points. Cocci added four assists, three rebounds and two steals, while Ballinger made five steals and one block.
 
Theresa Walsh paced Immaculata on the glass with nine rebounds while adding six points, three assists and two steals. Tess Kieffer came down with six rebounds. Bailey Krewson dished out a team-best six assists while adding four points and four rebounds.
 
After the Defenders (0-13, 0-7 CSAC) took a 3-2 edge to start the first quarter, with all three points coming on free throws, the Mighty Macs went on a 9-0 run that put the guests on top, 11-3, with 5:08 remaining in the quarter. Samantha Snow trimmed Clarks Summit's deficit to five (11-6) with 2:28 to play after converting a three-point play, but Immaculata scored eight-straight points, including four by Laws in the run, to jump in front, 19-6. Clarks Summit sunk one free throw with 33 seconds to play in the quarter, and Krewson capped the first quarter with a layup, and Immaculata led at the end of the stanza, 21-7.
 
The two teams traded baskets to begin the second quarter, and the Mighty Macs took things from there as they continued to extend their lead with a 10-2 run. Immaculata was ahead 33-11 at the end of the spurt with 4:07 left before halftime. Laws chipped in five points for the Mighty Macs during their run. Immaculata held Clarks Summit to just five Torri Erdman free throws during the final four minutes of the half. All the while, the Mighty Macs finished the second quarter scoring 12 points, and led at halftime, 45-16.
 
The third and fourth quarters continued much like the first 20 minutes of play for the Mighty Macs. Immaculata led 67-22 following third-quarter action, and then outscored Clarks Summit, 19-9, during the fourth quarter for the 86-31 win.

Immaculata finished the contest 36-for-78 from the field or 46.2 percent, which is the best shooting percentage for the Mighty Macs in a game this season.
 
Today's game marked the most points scored by an Immaculata squad since January 24, 2015, when they also played Clarks Summit, formerly known as Baptist Bible. The Mighty Macs won that contest, 91-31.
 
Immaculata heads to Haverford on Monday, January 16, at 6 p.m. in the final non-conference game of the season for the Mighty Macs.
