IMMACULATA, Pa. - On a wet and dreary Thursday afternoon, the Immaculata women's soccer team (3-7-0, 3-1 CSAC) continued its conference slate hosting the Cairn Highlanders (2-5, 0-3). The Macs would go on to win by a final score of 8-2.
The Macs entered the match coming off a huge win on Tuesday when they beat the Clarks Summit Defenders by a score of 9-2, thanks to the efforts of eight different goal scorers, and a new assist record from senior
Rachel Lamb. Each team entered today's game in search of a big win to climb up in the CSAC standings.
In the first half, the game started out ominously for the Macs as the Highlanders quickly converted a nice cross from sophomore Payton Emerick to senior Meghan Wilson to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead. The Macs quickly answered back in the sixth minute when freshman
Carly Quigley passed to sophomore
Carrie Quigley to even the score at 1-1.
The Macs would take the lead in the 30th minute when
Carrie Quigley converted on a shot from just outside the box to give the Macs a 2-0 lead heading into the lockerroom.
In the first half, junior goalie
Allie Tracey recorded three saves to help keep her team in the match in the early going.
The Macs continued to apply scoring pressure as they opened the scoring again in the 46th minute when
Carly Mirarchi scored an unassisted goal, her first of three markers on the day. Mirarchi scored again in the 74th and
76th minutes, with one assist from
Carrie Quigley on her goal in the 76th minute that got her started on a breakaway to complete the hat trick. She is just the 10th player in team history to record a hat trick.
Freshman
Isabella Romano scored in the 67th minute off an assist from sophomore
Morgan McDonough, and then a minute later McDonough scored on a pass from senior
Paulina Rucci.
The Highlanders scored once more in the 67th minute when Meghan Wilson scored her second of the day to bring the score to 6-2.Â
Tracey made one more save in the second half to bring her tally to four saves on the day.
The Macs next game is Tuesday, October 4, when they travel to Notre Dame of Maryland at 4 p.m.
