IMMACULATA, Pa.-On a beautiful fall Saturday afternoon the Immaculata women's soccer team played host to the crosstown rival Neumann Knights and the Knights (4-5, 1-1 CSAC) would prevail by a final score of 3-1. Each team entered into the game with one Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game under their belts having opened conference play last weekend. The Macs (1-6, 1-1 CSAC) opened up play with a big 3-1 road victory over the Keystone College Giants while the Knights took a loss at the hands of the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins by a score of 2-0.
In the early part of the first half the Knights out possessed the Macs and the Macs would not get a shot on goal until the 20
th minute. The Knights opened up the scoring in the 18
th minute with a goal from freshman Danni Elman who got a great pass from senior Jamie King to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage. They would not look back from this point as they scored again in the 25
th minute when Elman scored again on a breakaway. The Macs got right back in it in the 30
th minute thanks to a big penalty kick goal from senior
Elizabeth Dudas. For the remainder of the first half the Macs kept the pressure on the Knights but not could not score.
In the second half it was a very similar story as each team applied constant pressure but was unable to finish. The Knights would score one more time in the 89
th minute when senior Jamie King scored off a great assist from freshman Grace Stauffer. The Macs goalie junior
Allie Tracey kept the Macs in the game all day making five saves on the day to match the Neumann keeper Anna Attardi who made five saves of her own. The Macs outshot the Knights by a margin 17 to 11 but it was not enough to take down the Knights.
The Macs next home game will be Saturday October 1
st when they play host to the Cairn Highlanders.
