Box Score
IMMACULATA, Pa.-Â On a beautiful fall Saturday afternoon and in game three of a triple header at Draper Walsh Stadium, the Immaculata men's soccer team (4-3-1, 1-0 CSAC) squared off with their crosstown rival Neumann Knights (2-6, 0-1 CSAC) and sophomore Mark Staudenmeyer provided the heroics as he scored the game-winning goal with 28 seconds to go. The win in the team's Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener was the first for the Mighty Macs over Neumann since 2008.
In the first half of play the possession was even as both teams had four shots apiece and two on goal. The Knights had three corners while the Macs had none so that gave the Knights the slightest of edges heading to the break. Each team had some quality opportunities but the goalies and their defenders were able to snuff out all the chances before anything could truly develop. Immaculata goalie
Joe Lubonski made two nice saves including one difficult save on a great header in front.
In the second half the Macs once again applied steady pressure and this steady pressure proved to be enough to defeat the Knights. The Macs would ultimately take the lead with 28 seconds to play thanks to a great pass from sophomore
Alex Noel to Staudenmayer who would knock the ball past a diving goalie on what become the go-ahead goal.
Each team had 15 shots and the Macs had nine shots on goal compared to 6 for the Knights none bigger then the shot from Staudenmayer.
Senior goalie
Joe Lubonski had a great day between the pipes making six saves on the day, the Neumann goalie sophomore Shane Smith also had a solid day making eight saves of his own.
The Macs next home game is Tuesday the 27
th against Bryn Athyn at 4 pm, their next conference game is next Saturday when they go to visit the Keystone College Giants for a 4 pm start.
