RADNOR, Pa.- For the third time in four years, the No. 4 Immaculata women's lacrosse team (8-10, 6-3 CSAC) will be travelling to top-seeded Cabrini (11-5, 9-0 CSAC) for a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semifinal on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Â
In 2013, the Mighty Macs were playing in their first-ever CSAC Semifinal and lost at Cabrini, 21-8, and in 2014, the Cavaliers ousted the Macs again by a score of 18-5.
Â
The Mighty Macs reached the CSAC Semifinals this season, their fourth consecutive, by virtue of a 19-9 win over No. 5 Centenary at Draper Walsh Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs had a balanced effort with eight different goal scorers, led by sophomore First Team All-CSAC midfielder
Hannah Verrecchia with five goals on the day, which tied her for the most in a single season in IU history with 59. Sophomore
Nicole Dominick had a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists, and freshman
Amanda Maher also had a personal-best six points on three goals and three assists. The Mighty Macs led 12-4 at the half and never looked back on their way to the win.
Â
Immaculata and Cabrini have met once already this season on March 23
rd at Draper Walsh Stadium and the Cavaliers defeated IU, 18-4. Cabrini scored the first three goals before sophomore Second Team All-CSAC midfielder
Brittany Whaley scored for the Macs to cut the deficit to 3-1 at the 18:44 mark of the first half. Cabrini would take control with six straight goals before senior Honorable Mention All-CSAC attacker
Shannon Neill scored to make it 9-2. The Cavaliers took a 13-2 lead into the second half. Maher and Verrecchia added single goals in the second half, but it wasn't enough in the CSAC defeat.
Â
The Mighty Macs will look for big games from Verrecchia (team-high 67 points) and Dominick (36 goals, 21 assists) on the offensive side to keep pace with the Cavaliers. Neill (22 goals, 27 assists), Whaley (31 goals, 6 assists), and sophomore
Rosemarie Reitman (26 goals, 9 assists) have also had big seasons and will contribute on offense for IU.
Â
Defensively, First Team All-CSAC defender
Bailey Krewson leads the team with 54 groundballs and has caused 20 turnovers. Whaley has been great on defense as well with a team-high 28 caused turnovers, 52 groundballs, and a team-high 66 draw controls. Junior
Bridget Polansky (35 groundballs) and sophomore
Olivia Carter (28 groundballs) will also be key defensively for the Macs in slowing down the Cabrini attack.
Â
Junior goalie
Elizabeth McBride (4-5) did not play in the first Cabrini game, so this will be her first test against the Cavaliers this season. She is giving up 13.00 goals per game and has made 70 saves in her nine starts.
Â
Cabrini is the top scoring team in the conference at 14.06 goals per game and is surrendering 7.88 per game, second best in the league. They are led by CSAC Player of the Year Sasha Wozniak who had 47 goals and 18 assists for a team-high 65 points. The Cavaliers also have CSAC Defensive Player of the Year Jess Breuning who had 26 caused turnovers and 48 groundballs, along with 38 goals and six assists.
