IU Comeback Effort Comes Up Short In 15-12 Loss At Eastern

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (5-7) fell into a 9-2 deficit at halftime, but clawed their way back to two goals down at Eastern (2-9) in a non-conference game on a snowy Saturday afternoon, but their comeback attempt would come up short in a 15-12 defeat.  The Macs outscored the Eagles 10-6 in the second half and were led by a career-high five goals from sophomore Brittany Whaley.

Sophomore Nicole Dominick had three goals and sophomore Hannah Verrecchia had two goals as the multi-goal scorers for IU.  Senior Shannon Neill and sophomore Rosemarie Reitman had one goal apiece.  Verrecchia led the squad with four caused turnovers and Dominick had four groundballs, tops on the team.

Senior goalie Elizabeth McBride had five saves in the cage.  In the game, IU outshot Eastern 37-25, but were unable to overcome the early deficit.

Eastern scored the first five goals of the game before a goal from Dominick got IU on the board.  Eastern then scored the next four, but Dominick got a critical goal before halftime to stop the Eastern run and send the game to the locker room at 9-2 Eastern.

The teams traded goals out of the locker room to make it 10-3, and the Macs then had four different goal scorers put one in the back of the net to bring IU within three at 10-7.  Dominick, Whaley, Verrecchia, and Neill contributed to the run.

The Eagles stopped the IU run midway through the half to extend the advantage to 11-7, but Verrecchia got her second of the game and 35th of the season to close the gap to 11-8.

After Eastern got a goal to make it 12-8, the Macs got back-to-back goals from Whaley and Reitman to get back to 12-10 with 8:35 remaining in the contest.

The Eagles got three critical goals to give themselves a five goal lead.  Whaley got two goals in the final 89 seconds, but the Macs ran out of time in the 15-12 loss.

Immaculata will get back into league play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Neumann.
