Box Score EWING, N.J.- After seeing their 10-game winning streak come to a close with a sweep at the hands of Centenary on Saturday, the Mighty Macs (14-10) looked to bounce back on Tuesday afternoon, but they fell behind 13-4 through three innings to TCNJ (15-4) and were unable to recover in a 14-8 loss.
Â
The Macs were productive offensively with 12 hits, including two hit efforts from junior left fielder
Jason McCormick (2 R, 2 SB, 2 2B, RBI), senior shortstop
Ryan Ficca (RBI, BB, SB), junior designated hitter
Howie Kalamets (2 R, 2B), and senior right fielder
Chuck Wyckoff (R, 2 RBIs, SB).
Â
In the first, McCormick continued his outstanding season in the top spot with a lead-off double. He moved to third on a groundout, and Ficca brought him home with a groundout to second to stake IU to a 1-0 lead, their only one of the game.
Â
Sophomore pitcher
Eddie Decker, who would take the loss, surrendered four runs in the bottom of the first and IU would trail 4-1 through one.
Â
The Mighty Macs fought back right away with two runs in their half of the second. Kalamets hit a one-out double, and sophomore third baseman
Justin Dempsey (1-for-2, 2 R, RBI, 2B, 2 BB, SB) followed him with an RBI double to left field to bring home Kalamets. Wyckoff then stroked a 2-0 pitch to left field to bring home Dempsey and get the deficit back to one run at 4-3.
Â
However, TCNJ would extend their lead to 8-3 with four runs on a grand slam against sophomore
Collin Stringham.
Â
The top of the IU order got a run back in the top of the third as McCormick doubled again, and moved to third on a groundout. Ficca would work a walk, and with runners on the corners, he was thrown out stealing, but McCormick scored to bring the Macs closer at 8-4.
Â
TCNJ would then get their biggest offensive inning in the third as they scored five runs in the bottom of the third against sophomore
Ryan Joyce to put the Macs in a 13-4 hole.
Â
Immaculata made it four straight innings of scoring in the fourth with a three-run frame. Junior catcher
Ryan Tecco (1-for-4, R) singled to lead off the inning. Following a flyout, Dempsey walked and Wyckoff brought Tecco home with a single to left field. The Macs would get two runs on an RBI fielder's choice by McCormick and the deficit was at 13-7.
Â
Joyce would toss a scoreless bottom of the fourth, but sophomore
Trevor O'Brien gave up one in the fifth before a clean sixth.
Â
Junior
Ryan Blough and Simon would toss scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth. The Macs got their final run of the day in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by senior center fielder
Rick DiDomenico (1-for-2, RBI, BB) to score Kalamets and get to the final of 14-8.
Â
The Macs will go back to CSAC play on Friday looking to snap a three-game losing skid against Marywood at 3 p.m.
