Box Score 2 ALLAMUCHY, N.J.- The Immaculata baseball team saw their 10-game winning streak come to an end in tough fashion as they were swept in a doubleheader this afternoon at Centenary (11-8, 2-4 CSAC), both in walk-off fashion, 6-5 in the opener, and 7-3 in extra innings in the night cap.
Â
The Macs dropped to 14-9 overall and 4-2 in CSAC play.
Â
In the opener, senior
Mike Lascomb (2-for-4, RBI, SB) and sophomore
Justin Dempsey (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) each had multi-hit efforts for the Macs, but Centenary broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the seventh to win the game, despite only five hits.
Â
The Macs got on the board first in the second inning as Dempsey reached on an error to lead off the inning and moved to third on a single by junior right fielder
Howie Kalamets (1-for-3). Sophomore third baseman
Brad Misialek (BB, R) then brought him home with a successful suicide squeeze to put IU up 1-0.Â
Â
The Cyclones got three runs in their half of the second and chased sophomore starter
Eddie Decker from the contest after just 1 2/3 innings pitched. Sophomore
Trevor O'Brien, Thursday's winning pitcher, got a pop out to end the inning with runners on second and third, but the Cyclones led 3-1.
Â
IU would punch right back with three runs to re-take the lead in the third. Junior left fielder
Jason McCormick (1-for-4, R) reached on an error to lead off the inning and moved to second on a groundout. Senior shortstop
Ryan Ficca (1-for-4, R, RBI) then singled up the middle to cut the deficit in half at 3-2 as McCormick crossed the plate. Dempsey would then strike a big blow with a two-run double to score Ficca and senior designated hitter
Matt Simon to put IU back on top, 4-3.
Â
In the back-and-forth affair, the Cyclones hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game up.
Â
In the fourth, the Macs took advantage of a lead-off walk to Misialek as he would come around to score on an RBI single through the right side by Lascomb to put IU back in front, 5-4. From there, the Immaculata offense would manage just two singles as their offense stalled.
Â
O'Brien would be removed in the middle of the fifth after going 2 2/3 innings while allowing just one hit and two runs, but the Cyclones tied the game at 5-5 on an RBI groundout off junior
Kyle Bacher.
Â
After the Macs went down in order in the seventh, Centenary got a lead-off walk, bunted him to second, and won the game on a single up the middle.
Â
In the second game, junior
Kenny Anderson gave a solid effort on the mount with 4 2/3 innings pitched while allowing six hits and two runs, and senior
Nick Campione was good in relief as he went 2 1/3 while allowing one run and striking out five, but the Macs were unable to take advantage of the good efforts on the mound.
Â
The game was scoreless into the bottom of the third when the Cyclones got the first run of the game, but the Macs bounced back with one in the fourth to tie it. Ficca (R, BB) walked to lead off the inning, took second and third on wild pitches, and senior designated hitter
Matt Simon (2-for-4, RBI) brought him home with an RBI single.
Â
The Macs took their first lead of the day in the fifth as Kalamets (2-for-4, R, 2 2B) doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a passed ball. The Cyclones would tie the game in the fifth as they chased Anderson and scored on a bases loaded hit batter.
Â
The game would go to the seventh still locked at 2-2, but IU un-tied it with a run in the seventh. Misisalek (BB, R) reached on an error with two outs, and senior centerfielder
Rick DiDomenico (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) hit an RBI double on the next pitch to give the Macs the lead. Unfortunately, the Cyclones tied the game in their half of the seventh to send it to extras.
Â
It would stay tied into the ninth, but the Macs put together a threat. Kalamets led off with a double and would move to third, but was called out trying to tag from third on a sacrifice fly attempt due to an illegal slide and the Cyclones would take advantage in the ninth.
Â
They loaded the bases with one out against Dempsey, and Nick Koffel would end it with a grand slam.
Â
The Macs will go back to non-conference play on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at TCNJ.
