SCRANTON, Pa.- The Mighty Mac women's lacrosse team (6-9, 5-3 CSAC) travelled to Marywood on Tuesday night for an important game for seeding in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason, and the Macs fell behind early, but rallied in the second half before coming up short in a 17-13 defeat.

Brittany Whaley had a great game, scoring a career high six goals and picking up four groundballs and causing two turnovers. Sophomore
Nicole Dominick had three goals as the other multi-goal scorer for the Macs.

Shannon Neill became the eighth Mighty Mac ever to score 100 goals in her career as she had four points on one goal and three assists.Â

Rosemarie Reitman all scored a goal as well.

Bailey Krewson scooped up a team-best five groundballs and senior
Elizabeth McBride had 12 saves in the cage.

Marywood scored two goals in the first 75 seconds, and Dominick got the Macs on the board with a free position goal at 26:55 to make it 2-1. Marywood then scored a goal before the Macs tied it up on the first by Whaley and the 100
th goal of Neill's career at 19:40 to make it 3-3.

The teams would trade goals to make it 4-4 midway through the half after Whaley's second of the game, but the Pacers ripped off four straight to go up 8-4 with 7:25 to go before the break. Whaley scored on a helper from Neill to stop the run.

Whaley would score once before the break, but Marywood added three more to take an 11-6 lead at the break.

The Mighty Macs would dominate the early part of the first half as Whaley, Dominick, Verrecchia, and Reitman all registered goals and the Macs trimmed the deficit to one at 11-10 with 15 minutes to go in the game.

Marywood would add two goals to give themselves a cushion in a 28-second span to make it 13-10 with 13:23 remaining. Polansky brought the Macs back within two, but the Pacers ripped off three straight to put the game out of reach at 16-11.

Dominick and Whaley each added one more before the final Marywood tally.

The Mighty Macs will return home on Saturday afternoon to host Cedar Crest at 1 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium. A win will clinch the fourth seed in the CSAC tournament and a home game in the quarterfinals. On Saturday, the Macs will also celebrate seniors
Shannon Neill and
Elizabeth McBride.
