Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata women's lacrosse fell to Delaware Valley in its home opener Saturday afternoon, 14-11, in non-conference action. The Aggies (2-1) used an eight-goal second half to win the game after trailing, 7-6, at halftime.
Delaware Valley opened the second half with the first two goals to take the lead, 8-7. Immaculata thought it had tied the game at 8-8 with 23:30 to play in the contest as
Rosemarie Reitman scored. However, the goal would be called off for an illegal stick, and the Aggies would score two up goals on the penalty to extend their advantage to 10-7.
Immaculata (0-2) answered with two straight goal from
Meredith Katona and
Hannah Verrecchia to cut its deficit to 10-9 with 16:35 to go in the game. However, Delaware Valley rallied for four goals in a five-minute span that seemed to shift the momentum to the visitors.
The Mighty Macs rallied as Verrecchia scored with 6:08 to go, and
Shannon Neill made it a 14-11 game with 2:30 remaining to put the Macs in striking reach. Immaculata couldn't find the back of the next the rest of the way and it remained, 14-11.
Immaculata opened the contest with three goals in the first 10 minutes for the early 3-0 lead. Reitman had two goals during the opening run for the Mighty Macs. Delaware Valley came right back with three goals to tie the contest at 3-all with just under 11 minutes remaining before halftime.
The Mighty Macs came back to rattle off three more goals, including two from Verrecchia, giving them a 6-3 lead with 5:19 to go in the half. Immaculata held a three-goal advantage (7-4) after
Brittany Whaley scored with 2:03 left, but Delaware Valley tallied two goals in the final minute for the a one-goal game at halftime, 7-6.
Verrecchia finished with a team-high four goals, while Neill added two goals and two assists. Verrecchia also had two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Neill finished with three draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Reitman tallied two goals, and Whaley had one goal, two draw controls and three ground balls. Katona also had one goal and three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and
Jackie Wood recorded one assist, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Christine McIntyre recorded 14 saves in the loss.
Immaculata hosts Hood on Thursday, March 10, at 4 p.m.
