Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata men's lacrosse came one goal shy of tying the game in the fourth quarter as the hosts fell to Delaware Valley, 9-8, in non-conference play Saturday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Christian Fisher and
Brian Shultis each scored two goals, while Shultis added two assists.
Brendan Doyle and
Mike Reardon each tallied one goal and one assist, and Reardon had two ground balls.
Samuel Zingaro and
Matt Krewson each recorded one goal.
Delaware Valley scored the first goal of the game just 1:07 into the contest, but Immaculata answered at the 11:09 mark as
Tyler Black assisted on Doyle's goal. However, the hosts trailed at the end of the first quarter, 3-1, after the Aggies scored twice during the final five minutes.
Immaculata quickly tied the game at 3-3 with Shultis and Krewson each racking up goals during the first two minutes. Delaware Valley would unfortunately score three consecutive goals, before Reardon ended the run with a score for Immaculata with one minute to go, and the Aggies led at halftime, 6-4.
The Aggies did all the scoring in the third quarter as they added to their lead with three more goals for a 9-4 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.
The Mighty Macs began to chip away at the Aggies lead when Shultis scored at the 10:30 mark, but it wasn't until the final five minutes that Immaculata really staged its comeback. Fisher put the Mighty Macs within three with 5:34 to go with an unassisted goal. Zingaro then scored unassisted with 1:22 to play, and Fisher scored again as he came around the cage and flicked the ball in the top left with 47 seconds remaining to put Immaculata down just one, 9-8. However, the comeback stalled after Delaware Valley won the faceoff, and held on for the win.
Jake Kemble had four ground balls and two caused turnovers to lead the team.
Christian Custodio made 10 saves in the loss.
Immaculata hosts Bryn Athyn on Wednesday afternoon, March 9, at 4 p.m.
