Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE, Fla.- In the final day of their Florida Coast Spring Training trip, the Immaculata University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Widener, 6-5 and 9-6, to close out their road trip at 4-5.

In the opener, the Mighty Macs let a late lead slip away, and in the second game, IU nearly clawed out of an early hole before dropping the night cap.

In the first game, sophomore
Eddie Decker threw four strong innings while giving up just three hits and one unearned run, but the bullpen allowed the lead to slip away. At the plate, junior right fielder
Howie Kalamets had a huge day with an RBI triple and a two-run home run, the sixth of his career. Senior shortstop
Ryan Ficca added two hits, along with sophomore catcher
Justin Dempsey.

IU got a run in the top of the first as senior first baseman
Mike Lascomb (1-for-4) singled with one out and moved to second on a walk by Ficca. After Lascomb was caught stealing, junior designated hitter
Matt Simon hit an RBI single for the first run of the game.

In the third, Kalamets delivered his second home run of the season to score senior third baseman
Rob Wallace (1-for-1, 2 BB, R) and give IU a 3-0 lead through three innings.

Decker worked around trouble in the fourth, allowing just one run to give the Macs a 3-1 lead to the fifth.

In that frame, the Macs added to their lead with an RBI triple by Kalamets and an RBI single by Dempsey to extend the advantage to 5-1. Widener would tie the game off freshmen relievers
Brandon Shapiro and
Billy Manzo in the fifth, and took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch.

In the seventh, Ficca singled with one out, but two strikeouts would end the contest.

In the second game,
Ryan Ficca (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) hit a two-run double to score Lascomb (2-for-2, BB, RBI, R) and junior second baseman
Jason McCormick (1-for-3, R) in the first inning and stake IU to a 2-0 lead.

Widener would then score seven runs in the second and third innings to go up 7-2 through three. Junior pitcher
Ryan Blough threw 2 1/3 innings while giving up six runs and three hits, and sophomore Tyler Sassman surrendered three runs (two earned) and five hits over 2 2/3 innings.

Widener would extend the advantage to 9-2 in the fifth, but the Macs got one back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Lascomb.

In the bottom of the sixth, after freshman
Jimmy Dever held the Pride scoreless, IU fought back with three runs in their at bat, senior
Chuck Wyckoff hit a sacrifice fly, sophomore
Brad Misialek hit an RBI single, and sophomore
Adam Connor connected on an RBI double to make it 9-6. The Macs then had the bases loaded with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.

In the seventh, the Macs were unable to rally and fell 9-6.

The Mighty Macs ended the trip at 4-5 and will play their home opener next Friday against the Rochester Institute of Technology at 3 p.m.Â
