Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team returned from Easter break and bounced back from their first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) loss of the season on Tuesday night at Draper Walsh Stadium with a 12-4 victory over visiting Gwynedd Mercy (1-6, 1-3 CSAC). The Macs scored six consecutive goals in the middle of the first half to give themselves the lead and they never relinquished it from there.
The Mighty Macs were led on the scoresheet by a six-point night from sophomore
Rosemarie Reitman with a team-high four goals and two assists. Sophomore
Nicole Dominick had four points with one goal and three assists, while sophomore
Hannah Verrecchia (3 goals), senior
Shannon Neill (2 goals, 1 assist) and freshman
Amanda Maher (2 goals) each had multi-goal efforts.
Sophomore
Brittany Whaley had four caused turnovers to lead the team as the Macs had 22 total for the game. Verrecchia had a team-best six groundballs, while Whaley and Reitman each had five.
Junior goalie
Christine McIntyre had a great night in the cage with 13 saves, including several key ones early.
Both offenses were stymied by the opposing goalie early on until the Griffins broke through with the first tally nearly 10 minutes into the game and made it 2-0 at the 14:21 mark of the first half. The Mac offense finally broke through at the 13:51 mark with a goal from Verrecchia on an assist from Neill to start a string of six straight IU goals over a 7:36 stretch. Reitman scored her first two of the day within 37 seconds to give IU a 3-2 lead. Maher collected her first goal at the 11:01 mark, followed by Reitman and Neill to make it 6-2 with 6:15 remaining in the half. Dominick provided the helper on three of the goals.
Gwynedd would get one back, but Verrecchia responded with one of her own to make it 7-3 going into the locker room.
Verrecchia picked up where she left off with a goal less than two minutes into the half, and Neill followed with her second tally 47 seconds later to extend the advantage to 9-3. Gwynedd would get their only goal of the half at the 24:46 mark.
Reitman was involved in the final three IU goals as she gave the assist to Dominick, scored one of her own, and assisted on Maher's 10
th of the season to give IU the 12-4 win.
The Mighty Macs will close out a four-game homestand on Thursday when they host Arcadia.
