Men's Lacrosse Picks Up 14-10 Win At Alvernia

READING, Pa. – Immaculata men's lacrosse grabbed the lead with 2:51 remaining in the first quarter and held it the rest of the way as the Mighty Macs traveled to Alvernia Saturday afternoon for the 14-10 non-conference victory.
 
Alvernia scored the first goal of the game with 6:45 to go in the first quarter, and Immaculata tied the game at 1-1 on Mike Reardon's goal with 4:32 left in the quarter. Samuel Zingaro then scored the go-ahead goal with 2:51 to play in the first, and Immaculata never gave back the lead.
 
Reardon and Mike Doyle each scored during the first three minutes of the second quarter as the Mighty Macs pushed their advance to 4-1 with 12:14 remaining. The Crusaders got one goal back before Christian Fisher and Tyler Black scored 32 seconds apart for the Mighty Macs to extend the visitors lead to 6-2 with 6:56 to go before halftime.
 
Alvernia scored once more before halftime as Immaculata led, 6-3, at the break.
 
The Crusaders tallied two goals in the first three minutes of the second half, cutting their deficit to one, 6-5. Fisher and Reardon answered for Immaculata with two goals to push its lead back to three, 8-5. However, two scores by Alvernia to close the third quarter made it a one-goal game heading into the final quarter of action, 8-7.
 
Both teams had an outpouring of scoring during the final 15 minutes with Immaculata outscoring Alvernia, 6-3. The Mighty Macs began the quarter with four goals, including three man-up goals, to take a 12-7 lead. The closest Alvernia came was 13-10, and Immaculata scored another man-up goal with 2:28 to go to close it out.
 
Reardon finished the game with four goals and four assists, while Black had four goals, one assist and four ground balls. Fisher had three goals and one assist, Zingaro two goals and one assist, and Doyle one goal, two assists and five ground balls. Matt Krewson had two assists and four ground balls, and James McLean tallied one assists and a team-high six ground balls.
 
Christian Custodio made nine saves in his return into goal for the win.
 
Immaculata now turns its attention to Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play on March 30 when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy at 7 p.m.
