Women's Lacrosse Grabs First Win, 11-9, Over Hood

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (1-2) notched their first win of the young season with an 11-9 victory over visiting Hood (2-3) on Thursday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.  Sophomore Nicole Dominick had a huge game with four goals and one assist for a team-best five points on the afternoon.
 
Sophomore Hannah Verrecchia had four points on two goals and two assists, while sophomore Brittany Whaley and freshman Amanda Maher each had two goals apiece.  Senior Shannon Neill added three points on one goal and two assists.
 
Junior goalie Christine McIntyre had 12 saves, and Whaley led the way with six groundballs.  Dominick had three caused turnovers as well.
 
In the first half, Dominick and Verrecchia were strong offensively and the defense dominated to give them a 7-2 lead at the break.  Dominick scored twice, one on an assist from Verrecchia, and Verrecchia got her first of the day in a two minute span to put IU up 3-0 less than 10 minutes into the game.
 
Verrecchia got her second of the game with 18:42 to go to put IU up 4-0.  Hood finally got on the scoreboard with 11 minutes to go and added another with nine minutes left to trim the IU lead to 4-2.
 
However, the Macs finished the half strong with goals from Dominick, her third of the half, Whaley, and Neill to take a 7-2 lead to the locker room.
 
McIntyre was great in the first half with six saves while allowing just two goals.
 
Dominick netted her fourth of the game on an assist from sophomore Rosemarie Reitman less than four minutes into the game, and Maher tallied the first of her young career to swell the IU advantage to 9-2.
 
Hood scored with 20 minutes to go, but Maher got her second of the game to keep the Macs in front by seven at 10-3.
 
Hood would then rip off four straight goals over a three minute span to make things interesting at 10-7.
 
Whaley would score her second of the game on Neill's second assist of the game with 6:07 to go, and IU held on for the 11-9 victory.
 
The Macs will stay out of conference play when they travel to Richard Stockton on Saturday at 1 p.m. looking for their second in a row.
