Box Score FORT PIERCE, Fla.- After splitting yesterday's doubleheader with Elizabethtown, the Immaculata baseball team played the deciding contest against the Blue Jays (3-2) on Tuesday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Florida, and Elizabethtown scored runs in six of their eight at bats and IU was unable to come back in a 17-7 defeat.

Junior second baseman
Jason McCormick and senior first baseman
Mike Lascomb each had three hits, two RBIs and one run scored apiece in the top two spots in the order to lead the 11-hit charge for IU.

On the mound, sophomore
Tyler Sassaman got the start and surrendered four earned runs (nine total), while striking out four over 4 1/3 innings.Â

The Macs got on the board first in the top of the first with a double by McCormick to lead off the game and he came home on a single by Lascomb for an early 1-0 lead. Sassaman was able to work out of trouble in the first, but the Blue Jays took advantage of an error in the second to take a big lead early.

They sent 10 hitters to the plate and plated six runs, five of them unearned, to go in front 6-1.

The Blue Jays would add another in the bottom of the third, and the Macs cut the 7-1 lead in half with three in the top of the fourth.

Junior designated hitter
Matt Simon (1-for-2, BB, R) walked with one out, followed by a walk from junior catcher
Ryan Tecco (1-for-2, BB, R) to put two on with one out. Sophomore left fielder
Coleman Richards (1-for-3, RBI) then singled in Simon, followed by an RBI single from McCormick. Lascomb brought home the final run of the inning and the Macs trailed 7-4.

Elizabethtown added single runs in the fourth and fifth to chase Sassaman from the game and build their lead up to 9-4. They would break the game open with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach at 15-4.

The Macs scored a run in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Lascomb and senior shortstop
Ryan Ficca (1-for-4, 2B, BB). They added two more in the eighth on an RBI single by sophomore left fielder
Adam Connor (1-for-1, RBI, 2 SB) and an RBI single by McCormick, but Elizabethtown responded with two of their own to get to the final of 17-7.

The Mighty Macs will play Eastern on Thursday in a single game after a day off on Wednesday.
