Tamyra Laws had game highs in both scoring and rebounding, but it was not enough to secure a road victory at Marywood Saturday afternoon as the Mighty Macs fell to the Pacers, 68-57, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSCA) play.
Laws scored a career-high 26 points while adding 17 rebounds for her fourth-consecutive double-double. Laws' 26 points came on an 11-for-18 performance from the field and 4 of 5 from the foul line. She also added two blocked shots and two steals.
Theresa Walsh finished with 16 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Reilly Larkin added eight points and four steals.
Gina Cocci chipped in five points, five rebounds and four assists.
Immaculata slips to 5-16 overall and 5-7 in CSAC play. Marywood improves to 14-7, 11-1 CSAC.
Trailing the Pacers at halftime, 34-22, the Mighty Macs gave up the first four points of the second half as Marywood pushed its lead to 16 (38-22) just 1:03 into the third period. Walsh sunk a pair of free throws at the 8:31 mark to start a 13-2 run for Immaculata that drew the Mighty Macs within five points of the Pacers, 40-35, at the 5:35 point of the third period. Laws had nine points during the spurt for the visitors.
Marywood would extend its lead back to eight (45-37) with 4:37 to play in the third. Laws scored six more points in a 9-4 run by the Macs to end the period, and Immaculata was down by just three to Marywood heading into the final 10 minutes of play, 49-46. The Mighty Macs outscored the Pacers, 24-15, during the frame to stage the comeback bid.
The Pacers opened the fourth period on a 9-0 run as they held the Mighty Macs without a bucket until the 5:02 mark. Immaculata cut Marywood's lead to seven (62-55) with 3:05 to go but could not muster a comeback in the final waning minutes.
Immaculata had an answer for every Marywood point during the opening six minutes of the game as the Mighty Macs and Pacers were even at 10-all with 3:52 to go in the first period. The Pacers were able to get some separation during the final four minutes, and Marywood led at the conclusion of the first period, 19-13.
Marywood led by as many as 14 during the second period, while Immaculata cut its deficit to eight (30-22) with 2:44 left before halftime. The Pacers settled to a 12-point advantage at the break, 34-22.
Immaculata hosts Play 4Kay and senior night on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. as Cedar Crest College comes into Alumnae Hall for the Mighty Macs' final home contest of the 2015-16 season.
