Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team got their 2016 season underway this afternoon after a two day delay due to the weather, and the Mighty Macs (0-1) dropped their opener at Elizabethtown, 16-3. The Blue Jays (1-0) scored 10 consecutive goals over 28 minutes of game time that broke open a tie game early.
Freshman
Jackie Wood registered the first goal of her career, senior
Meredith Katona scored a goal, and sophomore
Rosemarie Reitman had a goal and an assist for the Mighty Macs. Sophomore
Brittany Whaley had a team-high three caused turnovers and four groundballs.
Junior
Christine McIntyre had 15 saves for IU in the cage.
After the Blue Jays scored the first goal at the 25:08 mark of the first half, the Mighty Macs responded a minute later on Katona's free position goal to knot the score at 1-1.
Elizabethtown then ripped off seven straight goals to make it 8-1 heading into halftime and would add three more to make it 11-1 by the 22:04 mark of the second half.
The Mighty Macs fought back with two goals in a 1:20 span to cut the deficit to 11-3 with just over 14 minutes to go in the game. Wood scored the first of her IU career on the helper from Reitman, and then Reitman got one of her own after a turnover by the Blue Jay goalie.
Elizabethtown would quiet any chance of a Mighty Mac comeback with five goals over the final 14 minutes to get to the final of 16-3.
The Mighty Macs will now look toward to their home opener next Saturday, March 5
th against Delaware Valley at 1 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
