Box Score FREDERICK, Md. – Immaculata University men's lacrosse got its 2016 season underway Thursday afternoon with a 10-6 loss on the road in non-conference action at Hood College.
Samuel Zingaro put the Mighty Macs on the scoreboard first, scoring his first goal of the season on an assist from
Brendan Doyle just 4:39 into the contest. However, two strikes by the Blazers gave the hosts a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Immaculata retook the lead as
Tyler Black was able to score on a man-up opportunity on a feed from Brian Shultis with 12:33 to play in the second quarter. Shultis then added his first collegiate goal with just under seven minutes to go for a 3-2 Mighty Mac lead. However, Hood would score a man-up goal of its own, and the squads were tied at 3-3. As the clock was ticking down to halftime, Black scord his second goal of the day with three seconds to go, giving the Mighty Macs a 4-3 halftime lead.
Hood scored the equalizer with 7:23 to play in the third quarter, and Immaculata came back with the go-ahead goal (5-4) with 2:20 remaining from Doyle. However, the Blazers scored two goals in 10 seconds apart during the final 30 seconds to take a 6-5 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Hood started the fourth quarter with four more goals to extend its lead to 10-5. Immaculata responded during the final minute with a Shultis goal, but it was too late to complete a comeback.
Shultis and Black both tallied two goals, and Shultis added one assist. Doyle had one goal and one assist. Immaculata goalkeeper
Christian Custodio made 16 saves and collected a team-best four ground balls.
Immaculata opens the home schedule Saturday hosting Wesley at 1 p.m.
