IMMACULATA, Pa.- On a rainy and cold Thursday night, the Immaculata women's soccer team (7-10, 7-4 CSAC) hosted the Cedar Crest College Falcons (5-9-3, 1-7-3 CSAC) on Senior Night and earned their third shutout in the last four games with a 1-0 victory to clinch home field in next week's Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Quarterfinals. They will enter the CSAC postseason as the No. 4 seed and will host their first conference playoff game in school history on Monday night at 7 p.m. against No. 5 Gwynedd Mercy.
This win was the seventh CSAC victory of the year which sets a school record for most conference wins in team history. Before tonight's game the Macs honored nine seniors for their great careers:
Erica Buckley,
Shelby Clare,
Elizabeth Dudas,
Emma Koontz,
Rachel Lamb,
Carly Mirarchi,
Bridget Polansky,
Tina Rosario, and
Paulina Rucci.
Lamb was the lone goal scorer on the night as she netted her third of the season which proved to be the game-winner. Junior
Allie Tracey and Rucci, who made her first career appearance in goal, combined for the shutout.
In the first half the Macs both out possessed and outshot the Falcons by a margin of 11-0. The Macs offense broke through in the 45
th minute when senior
Rachel Lamb converted a free kick from
Carrie Quigley to give the Macs a 1-0 lead with 47 seconds remaining in the period. The Falcons sophomore goalie Morgan Maddock made six saves to help keep her team in the game.
In the second half the Macs continued to apply pressure as they finished the night with 16 shots compared to just one for the Falcons. The Falcons one shot was saved by Rucci who made her first career appearance in net. The Mac defense would hold up and record the 1-0 shutout.
The Macs now shift their focus to Halloween night when they welcome in the Griffins at 7 p.m.
