Men's Soccer Dominates In 3-0 Home Victory

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's soccer team (2-4) put on a great showing on Saturday afternoon against Delaware Valley (3-3-1) in a non-conference game as they had a season-high 22 shots and netted three of them in a 3-0 victory over the Aggies at Draper Walsh Stadium.

Junior Kyle Jumalon had two goals on the day and junior Luke Santoni had the other along with one assist.

The Mighty Macs were dominant in the first half, possessing for most of the period and developing several quality scoring chances.  They had 16 shots and 9 on goal, and were finally able to cash in late in the half.  After freshman Mark Staudenmeyer and junior Stephen Smith were stopped from close range, the Macs scored to take a 1-0 lead at the break.

Jumalon won a ball from the defender about 30 yards out, made the turn and hit a shot from 20 yards out that sailed just over the outstretched hand of the keeper into the back of the net to give IU the one-goal lead on his second goal of the season heading into the locker room.

In the second half, Delaware Valley tried to get back into the game as they had an attempt get past junior goalie Joe Lubonski, but junior defenseman Pat Friend was there to clear the ball away and maintain the lead.

The Macs' offense picked up right where they left off from the first half.  In the 60th minute, Santoni found Jumalon just outside the box and he ripped a shot into the upper right corner for his second of the game and a 2-0 lead.  For Jumalon, it was the eighth goal of his career and second multi-goal game of his career.

Just three minutes later, it was Santoni's turn as he took a corner from the left side and his kick got by the keeper and extended the advantage to 3-0 on his first of the season and third of his career.

The Mighty Macs would finish off the 3-0 victory for their second shutout of the year.  Lubonski (2-4) would earn the victory in goal with one save over 67:53 of work while junior Billy Hegarty (12:52) and senior Mike Thompson (9:15) made two saves to finish off the shutout in their first appearances of the season.  The Mighty Mac defense was stout all day as they allowed just 10 shots with only four of them being on target.

The Mighty Macs will play one more non-conference game on Wednesday at William Patterson at 7 p.m. before getting into Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play next Saturday at home at 3:30 against Summit.
