Box Score 2 IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata baseball hosted Marywood (20-9, 12-6 CSAC) on Senior Day for a regular season closing doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, and the Mighty Macs (17-14, 11-7 CSAC) won game one 5-0 before dropping the finale, 8-3. Prior to the game, IU honored seniors
Matt Dolan and
Matt Lawson in a pregame ceremony.
In the first game, junior
Mike Campisano, sophomore
Adam Wheatley, and junior
Nick Campione combined to throw a seven-hit shutout, Immaculata's first of the season.
After Campisano shut the Pacers down for the first two innings, the Mighty Macs got on the board in their half of the second. Junior first baseman
Mike Lascomb (2-for-3, R, 2 RBIs) lofted a single to center field to lead off the inning and moved to second on a groundout by Lawson. Junior right fielder
Rick DiDomenico (1-for-3, R, RBI, SB) then hit a single through the right side to bring home Lascomb for the early 1-0 lead.
Campisano ran into trouble in the third as the first two hitters reached on an error and a single, but the junior starter got some help from his defense to escape trouble. Junior right fielder
Chuck Wyckoff made a sliding catch in right field and freshman left fielder
Coleman Richards made a nice running catch in left field before striking out the final hitter to maintain the IU lead. Campisano's day was done after three shutout innings where he allowed just two hits and struck out one.
The Mighty Macs grew their lead in the third inning with two more runs. They loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter with one out, and Lascomb lofted a two-run single to left field that was just off the left fielder's glove in a diving attempt to make it 3-0 through three innings.
Wheatley (3-1) came on in the fourth and worked around a two-out double before the Immaculata offense went back to work again in the bottom of the fourth. DiDomenico reached on an error, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch with one out. After sophomore catcher
Ryan Tecco (R, BB) walked, Wyckoff (1-for-1, R, RBI, BB) laced an RBI single up the middle for a 4-0 lead. Following a fly out, junior shortstop
Ryan Ficca (1-for-3, RBI) came to the plate with two outs and runners on the corners and hit a single up the middle to score Tecco for a 5-0 lead through four innings.
Wheatley continued to keep the Pacer offense in check, through a 1-2-3 fifth inning, and he escaped a two-on, one-out jam in the sixth with a pair of fielder's choices. Wheatley gave up three hits and struck out three in three shutout innings of work.
In the seventh, Campione came on to get the final three outs to halt the Mighty Macs' four-game CSAC losing streak.
In game two, freshman
Trevor O'Brien got the ball and Marywood got on the board for the first time in the day with two runs in the first to take the 2-0 advantage. The Mighty Macs clawed back with one in the bottom of the first on an RBI single to right field by Lascomb (2-for-3, RBI, BB, SB) that scored sophomore second baseman
Jason McCormick (2-for-4, 2 R, 3B) to make it 2-1 Marywood after one inning of play.
O'Brien went back out in the second, but ran into trouble as two runners were in scoring position with one out and the Macs went to the bullpen for freshman
Tyler Sassaman who got a strike out and fly out to keep the deficit at one run.
After a scoreless third inning, Marywood extended their lead to 5-1 after batting around with three runs in the fourth. The Pacers chased Sassaman before sophomore
Kyle Bacher came on to get the Macs out of the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Immaculata threatened as Lascomb singled and DiDomenico walked with one out, but sophomore pinch hitter
Matt Simon grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Marywood would put the game away in their half of the fifth with three more runs against freshmen relievers
Ryan Joyce and
Eddie Decker to extend their lead to 8-1.
Dolan made his final appearance on the IU Baseball Field with a scoreless sixth inning.
In the seventh, the Mighty Macs put together a rally starting with a single by freshman third baseman
Connor Kerns (1-for-1, SB, R). He stole second and moved to third on an errant throw by the catcher, and came around to score on an RBI groundout by
Dom Ficca. With two outs, McCormick tripled to left field and was brought home on an RBI double by
Ryan Ficca (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) to close out the scoring.
