GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Immaculata University assured itself a position in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Tournament with its sweep against Gwynedd Mercy University Friday afternoon. The Mighty Macs won game one, 11-3, and took the nightcap, 9-1, in five innings.

In game one, the Mighty Macs (14-16, 14-6 CSAC) got behind to the Griffins after the first inning, 1-0, but tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the third. Annemarie Bartow hit a ground-rule double that scored Christiana Donofry, who had reached on a hit by pitch.

Gwynedd Mercy retook the lead in the bottom of the third scoring two runs, and would hold a 3-1 lead as the fifth inning started. Immaculata put five runs on the scoreboard in the fifth, and later added five more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Immaculata's five runs in the fifth came on five hits, including another double by Bartow, and three Gwynedd Mercy errors.

In the seventh inning, Immaculata again strung together five hits, highlighted by a triple from Bartow and a two-RBI single from Melissa Ejk.

Bartow and Ejk both were 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the opener. Caitlin Brasier got the win in the circle giving up six hits and three runs, two earned.

The Mighty Macs scored all nine of their runs in the nightcap after they batted in the fourth inning and before the Griffins could push a run across the plate. Immaculata sandwiched a five-run third inning between a pair of two-run innings.

Both IU runs in the second came with two outs as the Mighty Macs used singles to move runners around the bases. The big five-run inning included two doubles (Bartow and Donofry) and a triple (Meghan Kugler). Immaculata's two runs in the fourth came courtesy of Bartow's two-run home run.

Kathleen Devaney turned in a 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs in the second game. Lauren Penn and Bartow were also 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Donofry had two hits. Kugler earned the win pitching all five innings allowing one unearned run on six hits.
