Softball Gets A Pair Of 9-1 Wins Against Notre Dame

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University' softball team picked up a pair of 9-1 wins in five innings against Notre Dame of Maryland University on Sunday afternoon. The Mighty Macs improve to 12-16 overall and 12-6 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) with the victories.
 
Brittany Merkle and Annemarie Bartow each were 4-for-6, including a double, in the two games. Melissa Ejk had two hits, including a three-run home run, and four RBIs. Christiana Donofry had three hits to move her over the 100-hit mark in her career. Lauren Penn drove in three runs, and two runs came by Lexie Diaz.
 
Immaculata scored four runs in the opening game in the bottom half of the first. Donofry and Merkle both walked to set up Ejk for her three-run shot to left field. Bartow then doubled, and scored two hiters later on Caitlyn Hudock's grounder.
 
The Mighty Macs added three more runs in the second as the first six hitters of the inning all reached base. Brasier doubled to lead things off, and scored the first run. Donofry tripled and scored on an error by the Gators. Merkle then singled and scored when Ejk followed with a double.
 
Notre Dame (5-19, 2-16 CSAC) scored one run in the fourth when Brea Kehr led off the inning with a single and the Gators worked her around the bases.
 
Immaculata scored two runs in the bottom portion of the fourth when it loaded the bases with two outs. Kugler then hit a ball into left field that allowed two runs to come in for the 9-1 lead.
 
 Brasier tossed all five innings allowing just two hits by the Gators, one run, and striking out eight.
 
In the second game, the Mighty Macs posted three runs in the second on just three hits. Kelsey Collevechio singled to start the inning, and the Mighty Macs got the bases loaded after an error by Notre Dame and a hit by pitch. A wild pitch then allowed the first and second run of the inning to score, and Penn hit a sacrifice fly to bring Kugler home from third.
 
Penn had a RBI single in the third to make the score 4-0 in favor of Immaculata.
 
Kehr again scored the Gators' only run of the game in the fourth after she doubled.
 
The Mighty Macs put the game away in the bottom of the fifth as they had five hits, four singles and one double, to score five runs for the walk-off win.
 
Kugler pitched a two-hitter allowing one unearned run.
 
Immaculata turns its attention to a doubleheader at Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday at 3 p.m. which will help to determine the Mighty Macs' seeding in the upcoming CSAC Tournament.
