Softball Takes Two From Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. – Immaculata University softball traveled to Keystone College on Monday afternoon and took both games of the doubleheader with the Giants, 10-9 and 6-3, to improve to 7-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
 
The Mighty Macs (7-15) were able to hold off the Giants in game one as Keystone scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Keystone had three singles to lead off the inning to load the bases, and the Giants kept producing to score one run at a time while keeping runners at all the bases. Immaculata got its first two outs on force plays at home plate, and a ground out to the pitcher ended Keystone's comeback as it left runners standing at all the bases.
 
Immaculata started the game scoring three runs in the first as Annemarie Bartow hit a three-run home run.
 
Keystone answered with one run in the bottom of the first, and tacked on three more in the third to take a 4-3 lead.
 
The Mighty Macs had a five-run fourth inning as Paige Hughes singles and Tabitha Mulholland walked setting up a RBI double by Brittany Merkle. Melissa Ejk then walked to load the bases, and another run scored as Bartow was hit by a pitch. Caitlin Hudock then brought in two more Immaculata runs with her single into center field, and Caitlin Brasier had a single to right field that scored the fifth run of the inning.
 
Immaculata added two insurance runs in the sixth as Ejk and Bartow began the top half of the inning each hitting a double, and Bartow came around to score on a throw to second as the Mighty Macs' runner was caught stealing.
 
Bartow went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Ejk and Hudock also finished 2-for-3 during the opener. Brasier picked up the win in the circle giving up 15 hits and nine runs, eight earned, during six-plus innings. Meghan Kugler came in for the final three outs to pick up the save.
 
In the nightcap, Immaculata scored one run in the first as Christiana Donofry and Merkle had back-to-back singles, and Donofry scored on error.
 
Keystone took the lead with two runs in the second, but Immaculata was able to tie the game at 2-2 in the third as Bartow doubled and Kelsey Collevechio then hit a RBI double.
 
The Giants would again gain the lead in the bottom of the third with one more run to make it 3-2.
 
The Mighty Macs would not be behind long as they added four runs in the fourth inning to cap the scoring. Immaculata used a Mulholland double and a single from Hudock as well as three errors by Keystone to seal the sweep.
 
Donofry and Mulholland were each was 3-for-4 to lead Immaculata in the second game.
 
Kugler pitched all seven innings to get credit with the win. She gave up just three hits while allowing no earned runs and striking out four batters.
 
Immaculata plays at Cedar Crest on Wednesday starting at 3 p.m.
